Talcott Financial Group has an exciting opportunity for seasoned Attorney to have expansive opportunities overseeing and directing new product distribution and retail platform. As in-house counsel specializing in life insurance and annuity sales, your primary responsibility is to ensure that our organization adheres to all relevant government laws, regulations, and industry standards. You'll collaborate closely with company management, agents, and other stakeholders to maintain compliance and mitigate risks. Key responsibilities include:
- Legal Guidance: Provide accurate, relevant, and timely legal advice to the organization and other staff members on various legal matters related to the life insurance and annuity business sector.* Program Design & Build: Provide support for the organization as its builds its retail franchise; provide legal and business advice and support to Company's annuity retail platform; design and build Company's suitability and sale practices policies and programs.* Contract Drafting and Review: Draft, review, and negotiate various commercial contracts and agreements related to life insurance policies and annuity contracts, including their sale, underwriting, issuance, and administration; supervise outside vendors to complete state product filings in all relevant jurisdictions; coordinate with Company's government affairs team to manage all state department filings and relationships.* Policy Compliance: Design Company-wide compliance program related to retail sales, distribution, and administration. Ensure products and operations are in compliance with insurance laws, regulations, suitability, and contract terms (suitability, replacements, sales practices, etc.).* Risk Assessment and Management: Collaborate with internal risk management and other stakeholders to support an end-to-end process that is legally compliant and identifies and mitigates risk appropriately.* Contract Administration: Support policyholder service and contract administration teams with resolution of complaints, claims, litigation, and other issues associated with contract issuance and administration.* Training and Education: Educate internal and external stakeholders on contract terms, industry requirements, operations, etc. Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school* Admission to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction and in good standing* Minimum of 7 years of experience in insurance-related legal matters, preferably in-house or at a law firm* Strong understanding of insurance coverages, annuity contracts, and industry regulations* Annuity and life product experience is strongly preferred* Self-reliant and capable of quickly learning new concepts, thinking creatively and critically, agile and adaptable to changing needs and challenges of a fast-paced company* Results-oriented and able to work under tight deadlines in a high-performance environment* Ability to travel when required.* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders at all levels within the organization as well as external partners.* Talcott Resolution is an equal employment and affirmative action employer.
