Job Title: Field Service Technician-Systems Services

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install systems after becoming trained on that product. This includes pre-installation drawing reviews and inspections.
  • Obtain Training Certifications for assigned product lines as directed by the Field Service Manager. Require annual re-certification to keep certificate.
  • Assist Field Service Manager, sales, and projects in preparing system migration quotations.
  • Inventory Customer Systems annually for Systems Support Agreement renewal.
  • Inventory Customer Systems to assist in preparing initial Systems Support Agreements.
  • Provide telephone support to assist in resolving customer problems and issues.
  • Prioritize, schedule and perform preventive maintenance, revision installation and corrective maintenance for assigned Systems Support agreement customers.
  • Prioritize services based on Systems Support agreement requirements.
  • Available for on-call duty for after-hours emergency customer support as required.
  • Assist in setup of training stations for factory and Puffer-Sweiven schools.
  • Take part in annual spares inventory as directed by Field Service Manager.
  • Perform Factory Acceptance Testing in project staging shops.
  • Develop test configurations and test hardware to assist in testing hot spares in the Field Service Shop.
  • Perform housekeeping chores to keep shop area orderly and clutter free.
  • Document all service related activities on a Field Service Call Report for entry into business system.
  • Assist Field Service Co-coordinators in gathering all pertinent information in support of field service billing and repair processing.
  • Tag all suspected defective material returned from service calls.
  • Keep schedule information current on electronic service calendar and apprise the Coordinators/Field Service Manager of changes in schedule.
  • Obtain safety training in the Area Safety Councils for all Systems Support agreement customers. Maintain the training by annually attending refreshers.
  • Assist in qualifying vendors for repair and parts purchases.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Knowledge:

  • 2 year AS or 4 year BS degree in Computer Technology, Electronic Technology, Instrumentation or Engineering discipline.

Experience/Skills:

  • 4+ years field service technician experience with process industry background.
  • Experience supporting Emerson Process Management control systems or Modicon PLC’s preferred.
  • Experience supporting other manufacturer’s control system a plus.

  • Strong background in installing personal computer operating systems and application software.
  • Strong background in AC power and ground installation and equipment.
  • Strong work ethic displaying consistent dependability, reliability and initiative.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to wear maximum level of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) without restriction which may include but is not limited to: hardhat; safety glasses; fire resistant clothing; safety-toed footwear; hearing protection; respiratory protection, etc.
  • Must pass DOT and customer’s required initial access drug tests.
  • Must meet company requirements for driving privileges.
  • Must pass criminal background check, includes receiving TWIC approval.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to walk and stand 8 hours per day.
  • Frequent climbing, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping.
  • Hazards: Potential exposure to chemicals. Proximity to moving mechanical and mobile equipment.
  • Must be able to work outside in environmental conditions which at times include extreme heat or extreme cold.
  • Environmental Conditions: Exposure to chemical plant manufacturing facilities. Must work both outside and inside and often in inclement weather conditions. Frequent exposure to noise and vibration. Must be able to distinguish emergency and other alarms and respond according to prescribed procedures.
