  The Emmy award-winning production Entertainment Tonight is looking for a seasoned field/news producer to join our team.    The right candidate will be a leader on our news desk when it comes to working in the field. 

  

The field/news producer we’re looking for is ready to hit the ground running at a moment’s notice to win the story.   You already know the Hollywood power players and how to ensure they take your call.   You know the right questions to ask and the interviews to get when arriving on the scene.   Crews enjoy working with you and talent trusts you.     

  

You thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.   You have an unshakable professional demeanor, even in high-stress situations.   You like multitasking.   You get excited when news breaks, no matter when or where, and you are always first to dive in to ensure you win the story.   You are ready to get on a plane and travel if needed to own the story. 

  

You understand the 24/7 needs of a news operation.   When a story breaks, you know the next steps to take without handholding.   You love bringing your team new information.   You’re a great communicator.   You are passionate about pop culture and can recognize famous faces without assistance. 

  

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Easily recognize good news stories and put in the work needed to turn them into great news stories 
  • Make sure ET reporting & storytelling is advanced and enhanced by what you’re doing in the field. 
  • Secure interviews on the fly while in the field that will elevator ET’s coverage without handholding (ie. Know who to talk to, what to ask. Etc.) 
  • Represent the ET brand on news related shoots in the field --- instructing crew & talent to ensure the right questions are asked, the right b-roll is collected, and the interviews are perfectly shot 
  • Comfortable operating all necessary tech in the field including a liveU 
  • Know which mic is best for each environment and work with the crew to ensure we have the best audio possible 
  • Know how to properly light a shot 
  • Cultivate sources while out in the field that will aid ET in the brand’s reporting & storytelling 
  • Book & produce news making interviews 
  • Book & produce interviews with experts that will add clarity to our reporting 
  • Write great questions & interview prep ahead of shoots 
  • Pitch stories daily to run on the ET brands many platforms. 
  • Spend each day working to break stories involving celebrities. 
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment where you’ll be expected to multitask and work well with others. 
  • Juggle multiple shoots daily 
  • Embrace that news is a 24/7 gig and be a good communicator so that if news breaks during “off hours” you’re still a key contributor. 

  

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • You have a minimum of 5 years working as field producer in a breaking news environment 
  • You bring a long list of contacts that include Hollywood power-players and insiders to the table. 
  • You are up for the task of bringing news to the brand on a regular (multiple times a week) basis. 
  • You have exceptional news judgment 
  • You can navigate any and all technology needed to pull off a flawless shoot 
  • You are comfortable interviewing major celebrities and can ensure the best questions are asked while also following up on all unexpected answers 
  • You clearly communicate the important details of a shoot with ease to co-workers 
  • You have experience using Slack, iNews, Avid Assist, and other newsroom tools 
  • You can always maintain a level of professionalism. 
  • You have a strong knowledge of pop culture and can recognize celebrities from all demographics. 
  • You embrace being on call for breaking news & understand there are times when news staff must be all hands-on deck (example:  award shows) 

 

This full-time role is Los Angeles-based. It is a hybrid position working from ET’s Studio City location on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursdays with the option to work from home on Wednesdays & Fridays. You will be expected to work major events and award shows in addition to normal workdays at various times during the year. Your schedule may need to shift to accommodate news gathering needs. You will always get as much notification as possible about changes.
