Family Liaison

Days: 200 a year

Salary Range: $21.41 hourly

Purpose: To provide translation and interpretation services written and verbal from source language into target language ensuring that, as far as possible, the translated version is as accurate as the source language. To plan and coordinate, ESL/Migrant and Title 1 Activities as required by the grant.

Qualifications

Bilingual Spanish/English reading, speaking, translating and writing.

Be literate in reading, writing, and speaking skills in English and other languages as required by job responsibilities.

Two year associate degree required; professional license, certificate, legal credential, or specific training fulfilling the responsibilities of the specific position preferred.

Effective communication skills; bilingual literacy in reading, writing, and speaking required. Ability to work independently without direct supervision. Excellent human relations skills with desire to interact with parents, students, staff, and the public.

Ability to provide training to staff and parents regarding program requirements, special services, and computer processes, etc.

Broad range of general office skills including computer skills including data entry, report generation, word processing, etc.

Commitment and discretion to maintain confidentiality.

Essential Functions

Keep accurate student data records in Skyward or other programs as required.

Be knowledgeable of local, state, and/or federal regulations concerning Title I & ESL/Migrant programs. Plan and conduct parent involvement activities.

Coordinate assessment activities; be able to administer assessments as required.

Be knowledgeable of community social services and family support agencies in order to provide appropriate referral information to individuals and/or families.

Assist with the planning and coordination of special programs and activities.

React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned. Serve as an interpreter as required

Reading through original material and rewriting it in the target language, ensuring that the meaning of the source text is retained; ? using specialist dictionaries, thesauruses and reference books to find the closest equivalents for terminology and words used;

researching education phraseology to find the correct translation

proofreading and editing final translated versions;

providing clients with a grammatical, well-expressed final version of the translated text, usually as a word-processed document;

using the internet and email as research tools throughout the translation process;

meeting deadlines;

retaining and developing knowledge of educational terms

Attend evening family liaison functions

Support the value of an education.

Support the philosophy and mission of USD 443.

Conduct parent meetings delivering pertinent information to parents

Create open communication with parents

General Responsibilities

Monitor students who are having attendance, grade, or behavior problems in order to improve school attendance and performance.

Serve as a translator/interpreter (English/Spanish) in both oral and written language.

Assist on an “as needed” basis with recruitment of families eligible for ESL/Migrant services.

Serve as communication link among school, home, and businesses or other community patrons.

Serve on the Parent Advisory Committee.

Maintain constant communication with parents concerning student issues and share with Administration/Counselors findings and concerns in reference to students.

Maintain a detailed log of visits with parents. The involvement of the liaison should begin with parent and end with parent.

Participate with family involvement at the school and district wide.

Refer families and students to migrant program.

Be an advocate for students and parents at the school and set up parent and teacher meetings are requested.

Translate for parents and for administration as necessary.

Plan parent activities throughout the year; including making flyers, distributing information, purchasing refreshments and prizes.

Assist with Parent Teacher conferences.

Follow district policies, state/ federal guidelines and other regulations pertaining to program responsibilities.

Assist with Home Visit / Parent interviews.

Cover during lunch hours for the office staff

Assist School In The Collection Of Data For Any Federal/state Grants Targeted Toward Title I And/or ELL Students. Although Not Limited To This List, The Data Collection Process Could Include The Following

  • Conducting parent interviews
  • Collecting and compiling student data
  • Collecting any other information needed to meet grant requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by an administrator.
