Fabrication Specialist (Gorika Technician)

Summary

Follow direction of Gorika Coordinator or Quality Manager to complete process improvement tasks involving metal working, machining, process improvement, countermeasure, Kaizen or other activity deemed necessary for the overall betterment of Topre America.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ability to read and understand basic blueprints, hand drawings, excel drawings or other prints provided by departments for process improvement activity.
  • Able to provide input for process improvement or other improvement activity.
  • Ability to safely weld, operate lathe, band saw, plasma cutter, mill, iron worker, or other machining/welding devices.
  • Able to accurately read measurement devices such as tape measure, calipers, micrometers, height gauge or other devices.
  • Able to perform time studies of assembly/press processes and develop improvement activities to increase PPH/SPM, cycle time and takt time.
  • Clearly communicate improvement activity to management staff during regularly schedule meetings or other communication events.
  • Participate in Kaizen activity.
  • Understand Topre America policy/procedure.
  • Follow direction of Gorika Coordinator or Plant Side Manager.
  • Create and maintain schedules for departmental activity.
  • Measure, evaluate and order material required to complete projects.
  • Follow-up on material orders and ensure delivery accuracy upon arrival.
  • Evaluate expected gains expected from gorika/kaizen activity and measure results after implementation.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Able to track cycle time, PPH accurately.

  • Machining and weld knowledge.
  • Develop the ability to demonstrate working knowledge of assembly robotics (Preferred: Motoman and Fanuc)

Qualifications

Previous Machining/Welding experience preferred. Ability to read and understand blueprints, hand drawings or other drawings expected. Process improvement experience and Kaizen participation preferred.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret English documents such as training, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedures manuals, prints etc. required.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts using basic arithmetic.

Computer Skills

  • Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or other CAD software preferred.

  • Mechanical knowledge (preferred but not required)
  • Process Improvement (preferred but not required)

Other Qualifications

Travel may be required for training or support of other TAC Gorika activity.

While performing the duties of this Job (work in manufacturing, fabrication and office settings), the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk and stand. Occasionally there will be the need to sit, twist/turn, stoop/bend, squat, kneel, climb, reach above shoulder, drive and push/pull. The employee must occasionally lift, carry and/or move up to 35 pounds. Above shoulder work applies to fabrication type settings and should not be repetitive. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee normally performs work in a climate-controlled manufacturing facility and/or office setting. Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat and risk of electrical shock are not expected. The use of hand tools does expose the employee to vibration on occasion. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and may require additional PPE per Topre America’s PPE policy.
