Every 18 months, Duncan Aviation team members who have reached the 25-year milestone with the company are inducted into Silver Wings. To date, there are nearly 600 lifetime members. This is also the 30th anniversary of Silver Wings. "Given the mobile nature of our society, it is quite a feat to have nearly 600 people who have dedicated 25 years to the company. It is important to create a way to give them the recognition they deserve." -Chairman Emeritus, Robert Duncan #DuncanAviation

The cost of maintaining your aircraft’s powerplants is perhaps the most expensive element of owning and operating a business jet or turboprop. If your aircraft is likely to be sitting idle for longer than normal, it is recommended that you take some extra steps to keep your engines in good working condition, minimizing the potential for their deterioration. On April 8, photographer Eric Nicastro captured this photo of the solar eclipse from Madison, Ohio. After reviewing the photo, he realized he had managed to capture a plane flying through the frame during totality. He asked around and discovered that it was an early Citation and used a flight tracking app to track down the exact aircraft based off the time and direction he was shooting. Once he had the tail number, he learned that it was a Citation XLS flown by two Duncan Aviation pilots, Corporate Jet Captain Dave Severson and Senior Captain Mark Schindler. This particular flight was a request from a client who wanted to be in the air during the eclipse on their way to Teterboro, New Jersey. Led by Duncan Aviation Flight Coordinator Stacy Hilton, they had to carefully execute the flight and ensure the timing was perfect. They took off with a normal clearance and had to significantly reduce power to see totality at the designated time between 3:15 pm and 3:18 pm. “As the time for the eclipse approached at our turn site, the passengers in the back of the aircraft pulled out their eclipse glasses,” recalled Captain Schindler. “The experience didn’t feel real. For us, the temperature dropped in the front as the sun disappeared. Flying under the shadow felt surreal, like being under an umbrella, with the clouds casting shadows below, while the rest of the sky remained lit.” Eric said it was definitely a nice surprise seeing the aircraft in his frame. “I had no idea it was there until I viewed the images. Photographing that eclipse was the result of months of planning and some good luck that the clouds cleared up.” Eric used a Canon R5 with a 100-500mm lens and a 1.4x extender. This specific shot was taken at 700mm, f/10, ISO 500, 1/125s. He had it mounted on an iOptron Skyguider Pro to track the sun and keep it in the frame for the entire eclipse. #DuncanAviation #SolarEclipse

The seats are undoubtedly the highlight in the newly refurbished company-owned PC-12. The front four seats are a lighter, two-tone Torino Lakestone and Torino Appalachian color with contrasting purple double-stitching. The back two seats are a dark, single-tone Torino Appalachian color with orange single-stitching. The colored stitching is a way to bring just a dab of color into the interior of the aircraft through the exterior paint colors. The purple double-stitching on the front four seats was stitched using a special sewing machine, but the rest of the stitching, aside from the quilted inserts, was hand-sewn by the Duncan Aviation team in Lincoln. We utilized the new CNC quilting machine located at our facility in Battle Creek to create the custom, diamond-patterned quilted inserts. The seat backs were also hydrodipped, which is a first for Duncan Aviation. #DuncanAviation
