As the Engineering Manager of our Member team, you'll be at the intersection of technology, product innovation, user experience, and business strategy. Your leadership will directly contribute to defining the overall strategy and roadmap for member engagement and retention including the optimization of onboarding and ongoing engagement with care for Brightside members through technological excellence and innovation. This role is not just about managing a team of talented engineers; it's about being a vocal, opinionated leader who drives the team towards achieving ambitious targets.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers, fostering a culture of high performance, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Be a strong advocate for engineering excellence, ensuring the team adopts best practices in software development, testing, and deployment.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Design, Data, Marketing, and stakeholders across the company to ensure alignment between business goals and technical implementation.
  • Drive technical projects and provide leadership in an innovative and fast-paced environment.
  • Encourage a data-driven culture, supporting experimentation to find growth levers and optimize user experience.
  • Have the courage to challenge the status quo and make tough decisions about refactoring or changing technical direction when necessary.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an Engineering Manager or in a similar leadership role within a tech-driven, growth-focused environment.
  • Previous success in a customer engagement/retention engineering role, with a deep understanding of engagement strategies, A/B testing, and iterative development.
  • Demonstrable experience in fostering a culture of fast-paced development and learning.
  • Strong technical background with hands-on experience in modern software development practices and web technologies (including Rails, React and React Native).
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • An action-oriented mindset with a focus on delivering results while maintaining high standards for quality and performance.

Preferred

  • Experience working in a HIPAA or otherwise regulated environment
  • Deep experience using Segment and orchestration between site activity and an ecosystem of tools.
  • Experience and proclivity to use self-directed analytics tools like Amplitude or Mixpanel.
  • Experience using React Native to build cross platform mobile apps.
