JOB SUMMARY:

The EE Design Engineering Manager will be responsible for coordinating the activities of an assigned Electrical Design Engineering team, providing oversight to ensure project deliverables are completed to standards and within established deadlines. He or She will also assist the Engineering Director and Electrical Project Engineering Managers and Supervisors with design resource allocations, operating quality/efficiency/on-schedule performance, group utilization, HR related items, implement policies, as well as travelling to customer's sites. The Electrical Design Engineering Manager is focused on designing complete control solutions for site-based conveyor systems for distribution, fulfillment, parcel, and warehouse applications. The applicant will be part of an engineering team deploying complex material handling solutions for various customers and container types. A successful applicant will have a desire to learn and improve upon numerous technologies developed by FORTNA in sortation, singulation, gapping, induction, merging etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support and develop a team of design engineers, overseeing quality and timeliness of assigned work activities.
  • Develop and review engineering designs ensuring quality requirements are achieved and upheld by the team ensuring customer expectations are met.
  • Provide project analysis and recommend necessary actions to achieve project deliverables to company standards and within established timelines.
  • Assist with ensuring that administrative tasks occur in a timely manner, (e.g. timecard, expenses, and travel).
  • Knowledge of all required functions of the Electrical Design Engineering Team.
  • Provide technical support and instruction to the design engineering team members and Project Engineering team members on how to design systems, create drawings and meet project goals using standards, specifications, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Utilize manufacturing and installation best practices to simplify and improve current design guidelines.
  • Collaborate with other teams within the group and / or company to identify common problems and solutions.
  • Align the Electrical Project Engineering teams on drawing standards and component selection.
  • Ensure utmost quality of ACAD-E practices and storage/organization of electrical drawings using Autodesk Vault.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience required / Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering is a Plus.
  • 5+ years of previous Material Handling Experience is required.
  • 3+ years of progressive people management or a focused work team of engineers, prefer in material handling / parcel industry.
  • Knowledge of AB, Schneider, Beckhoff and/or Siemens electrical products.
  • Knowledge of hardware used in material handling systems, i.e. sorters, conveyors, panel electrical components, field electrical components etc.
  • Advanced Knowledge and experience of NEC and NFPA and UL508A.
  • Familiarity with PLCs (AB, Beckhoff, or Siemens), and VFD solutions. PLC programming experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Indusoft, Wonderware, FactoryTalk View and / or Ignition is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • General office environment with normal sitting, standing and minimal, nominal lifting.
  • PPE may be required at customer locations.
  • Some climbing may be required at customer locations.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Travel required, up to 25%.
