Summary: This role will be responsible for leading the engineering department through project execution and confirming specific goals and/or projects are completed within projected delivery dates. This role will also be responsible for providing leadership and support while ensuring each member within the department is accomplishing critical objectives, staying ahead of the timeline, and adapting to any changes in plans or circumstances. 

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. All associates of Airstream are required to know and adhere to the policies and procedures which pertain to his/her position. 

  1. Perform frequent and ongoing reviews of design work, adjusting as necessary to achieve objectives with respect to deliverables, schedule, budget, scope, and risk.
  2. Monitor and approve design output to ensure that work is being carried out with respect to established Standards, Development Processes, Design for Manufacture, and form/fit/function requirements.
  3. Coordinate with HR to hire, train, evaluate, & take appropriate corrective action to maintain optimal staff performance.
  4. Assign duties to team members in an equitable manner; guide, monitor, evaluate the results and provide timely feedback on performance.
  5. Effectively establish SMART goals for respective team members to be in alignment with the strategic initiatives of the company.
  6. Ensure that office activities are carried out in a manner consistent with company and departmental policy.
  7. Participate in training, coaching, and mentoring opportunities that encourage associate growth and promotion from within.
  8. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to monitor part usage and changes to avoid or lessen the effects of parts shortages or design scrap.
  9. Coordinate with Manufacturing to address needs or challenges with respect to manufacturability, tooling, costs, and associate safety.
  10. Measure and track departmental KPIs through weekly accountability meetings, utilizing a project tracker with relevant and accurate data.
  11. Communicate with external suppliers to review new technologies and equipment that supports the improvement of both current and future product plans.
  12. Provide leadership with appropriate, timely, and accurate updates of project status and plans – including weekly/monthly reports, gate reviews, and resource requirements.
  13. Improve Leadership & Product Development Skills.

 Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or combination of education and applicable experience. 

 Skills/Qualifications: 

  1. Leadership behaviors combined with outstanding interpersonal, team building, and communication skills.
  2. Proven ability to multitask, set priorities, and adapt to ever-changing work environments.
  3. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skillset. 
  4. Working knowledge of robust ERP systems and/or AutoCAD Inventor CAD systems.
  5. Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, etc....).
  6. Must have the ability to assess a situation, seek multiple perspectives, and gather data to implement sustainable solutions.
  7. Ability to find solutions to problems using creativity, reasoning, and past experiences along with the available information and resources.
  8. Proven ability to manage multiple assignments and tasks (at different stages), set priorities, and adapt to changing conditions and work assignments.
