Job Description

General Summary

Responsible for translating the educational needs and objectives of the system into consistent and effective educational programs. Assess and improve patient care processes, and serve as an expert clinical resource to the department. Utilize evidence-based practice and research to develop practice standards for clinical team. Work is performed under limited supervision. Direct report to the Director, Education & Compliance UMMS Staffing Center.

Principal Responsibilities And Tasks

  • Ensure that staff clinical training and education needs are understood, documented, and addressed in a timely manner.
  • Provide consistent delivery of education by involving appropriate colleagues, customers, and staff to ensure commitment and knowledge-transfer.
  • Utilize education to support UMMS Staffing Center leadership in ensuring staff commitment to hospital objectives.
  • Introduce evidence-based practice improvements to facilitate the delivery of high quality, cost-effective patient care processes.
  • Collaborate in developing and implementing practice standards that achieve strategically relevant patient care outcomes in selected patient populations.
  • Use creativity and innovation in the development of curriculum.
  • Develop and implement method of identifying and matching staff needs that can be addressed through education.
  • Ensure that educational programs and specific content meet division, unit, and regulatory standards for design, content, teaching, evaluation, and documentation.
  • Design and develop comprehensive clinical orientation that ensures the deployment of highly skilled team members in collaboration with education leadership across the system.
  • Ensure that evidence-based practice standards and institutional policies and strategies requiring excellence from staff are met in collaboration with member organizations.
  • Provide input to UMMS Staffing Center leadership on team member accountabilities and competencies.
  • Establish and evaluate key performance indicators to assess the effectiveness of training programs; identify gaps in performance metrics, and recommend/implement change management techniques for efficiency/quality improvements.
  • Provide oversight to new team members throughout the onboarding process.
  • Collaborate with staff and UMMS Staffing Center leadership to establish and manage a system to measure the effectiveness of training.
  • Support member organization efforts regarding compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.
  • Develop and implement strategies to address identified practice gaps.
  • Consult, support, and mentor clinicians in collaboration with professional development leadership across the system.
  • Identify and analyze trends in satisfaction, quality outcomes, and practice excellence using data to guide continuing education efforts and initiatives to advance clinical practice in collaboration with the Director, Education & Compliance.
  • Serve as Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator for the department which includes staying abreast of new functions and enhancements to the LMS and transferring information to local LMS Administrators.
  • Serve as the project manager for the upgrade and/or transition of the existing LMS to prepare UMMS to meet current and future LMS learning needs.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture, promoting continuous learning and development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ progressively responsible experience in clinical management.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Minimum 7 (7) years’ experience in providing adult educational instruction/training and coaching in clinical setting.
  • BCLS or ACLS Instructor certification, or the ability to obtain within one (1) year from the date of hire.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Maryland required.

  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of nursing clinical competence.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate educational competencies, activities, and programs for the clinical team members in the UMMS Staffing Center.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and follow through on assigned tasks and projects.
  • Ability to analyze and conceptually develop ideas, proposals, and programs.
  • Ability to analyze, compare, contrast, and validate work with keen attention to detail.
  • Advanced public speaking and facilitation skills to effectively convey complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Advanced leadership skills, including situational awareness, conflict resolution, establishing alignment and clear direction, and driving continuous improvement.
  • Advanced skill using innovative thinking to solve problems and facilitate the decision-making process.
  • Advanced skill to influence, negotiate and persuade to reach agreeable exchange and positive outcomes.

  • Implement policies, procedure, and standards consistently in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Identify possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge.
