We started in 1995 with a simple idea: digitize the materials in university and college libraries to preserve them and make them available online to people everywhere. Today, we do that and so much more. Our 350+ staff - everyone from software developers, designers, and editors, to quantitative analysts, human resource specialists, and marketers - work to deliver four services developed to advance our mission. JSTOR is a digital platform expanding access to knowledge by making thousands of books, journals, images, and primary sources available to millions of students and researchers in 180 countries. Constellate is our platform to help educators and students teach, learn, and perform text analysis, helping to build the computational skills people need to thrive in our evolving digital environment. Portico is a global archive preserving nearly 500 terabytes of digital research content for libraries and publishers to ensure it's accessible for future generations. Ithaka S+R is a strategic consulting group providing research to help colleges, universities, libraries, and museums with challenges like enrolling more low-income students and veterans, increasing diversity in their workforce, transitioning to digital environments, and improving learning outcomes and graduation rates through the use of adaptive learning technologies. Many thanks to everyone who has already welcomed me after my appointment was announced last week. As of today, I have joined the teams at ITHAKA and the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) to serve as Senior Manager for DPC Americas! I am so excited to be an integral part of a new initiative that is based at two leading digital preservation organizations. Digital preservation is challenging, and I look forward to being part of necessary collective actions to make much needed progress. I will strive to inspire partners’ involvement and investment in DPC throughout the Americas. For about 5 of the past 7 years, I have primarily been a consultant. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to work with each of my clients. I owe a special shout out to Patricia Hswe and Michael Gossett for being amazing collaborators who meet every task with a wonderful combination of vision, precision and kindness. It’s been an honor and pleasure to work substantially with them for more than 3 years. I look forward to reconnecting with many colleagues and forming new working relationships.
