Description

Are you a curious and compassionate manager, excited to support a remote team of high-performing editors and writers? Are you an editor yourself who’s passionate about plain language, readability, and accessibility? Do you have a solid understanding of web publishing platforms?

If so, we want to talk with you! We’re looking for an editorial director to lead our team of editors and staff writers as part of a larger cohort of research and advisory professionals. Our ideal candidate is an expert communicator, an excellent coach, and a top-notch editor and writer. You’ll play a critical role in shaping and executing our content strategy, ensuring that our reports and digital assets uphold our reputation for quality, accuracy, relevance, and thought leadership. You should have experience with web publishing and HTML, content management systems (CMSs), search engine optimization (SEO), and content strategy. And we’d be over the moon if you have experience in the utilities sector—electric, gas, or water.

E Source provides predictive data science, research and advisory, and solution services to help utilities make decisions that benefit their customers, their bottom line, and our planet.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of editors and staff writers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, excellence, and fun
  • Provide strategic guidance and direction to the editorial team, aligning their efforts with E Source’s overall goals and objectives
  • Manage workflows and resources to ensure timely delivery of high-quality content
  • Manage the editorial budget
  • Take on project assignments as needed to support the team
  • Support and refine E Source’s editorial strategy in collaboration with senior leadership, taking into account industry trends, audience needs, and business objectives
  • Oversee the planning, creation, and publication of compelling, data-driven web content, including reports, articles, webinars, white papers, blog posts, and multimedia assets
  • Coordinate the maintenance of content resources, including the style guide, word list, copy editing software, and onboarding and training curriculum
  • Ensure that all content adheres to E Source’s editorial standards, style guidelines, and brand voice
  • Stay abreast of emerging topics and developments in content strategy, identifying opportunities for thought leadership and market differentiation
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including product strategy, research delivery, market research, marketing, and software products—to support integrated content initiatives and campaigns

What Will Make You a Good Fit

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or a related field
  • At least five years of experience in editorial leadership roles, preferably within the utility sector or a related industry
  • At least three years of experience in web publishing, preferably with Drupal or another open-source CMS
  • Experience with HTML
  • Experience with project management principles like Agile and Waterfall, as well as with software like TaskRay or Jira
  • Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft Office apps, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Proven track record of successfully managing editorial teams and driving content strategy in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy
  • experience working in style guides, preferably Chicago Manual of Style
  • Strong understanding of digital content platforms and best practices, SEO principles, and content strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, prioritize effectively, and adapt to changing priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Passion for clean energy, sustainability, and driving positive change in the world

A Little About E Source

Utilities across the US and Canada face the same fundamental, day-to-day challenges: to ensure reliable service for every customer while maintaining and modernizing aging distribution networks and meeting regulatory requirements—all while keeping rates affordable. • Financial stability: Ensuring a bottom line that affords capital and operational expenditures while enabling innovation and giving back to our communities

E Source blends industry-leading research, predictive data science, and solution services to help utilities make better decisions to serve their customers, their bottom line, and our planet. With a commitment to practical innovation, we use more than three decades of utility-focused experience and our unique solution set to help our clients become a Sustainable Utility.
