About New York Junior Tennis & Learning
New York Junior Tennis and Learning (NYJTL) is one of the largest afterschool tennis and education-themed community organizations in the United States. We offer comprehensive school and community-based programs throughout New York City’s five boroughs, serving more than 85,000 youth ages 5-18 every year.
The NYJTL afterschool program provides children with safe and nurturing environments in which they can learn and thrive academically, while receiving critical support to reach their potential both on and off the tennis court. The NYJTL afterschool program operates in elementary, middle and high schools located in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens. NYJTL is seeking bright, dedicated individuals who have a strong interest in working with after-school programs.
Position Summary:
NYJTL is seeking a Director of Training who will direct, design, plan and incorporate all Education Department training. They are responsible for developing and implementing professional development (PD) programs that help NYJTL’s team members succeed on the job. They will be tasked with overseeing the day-to-day operations of PD programs, including scheduling classes, selecting instructors, developing mentoring and job shadowing opportunities, and ensuring that all participants receive the necessary materials, coaching and follow-up for successful learning.
The Director of Training will work closely with other managers in the organization to identify areas where additional training and support would be beneficial. They may also work with human resources or other departments to determine which employees should be selected to participate in specific training programs (e.g., onboarding, emerging leader development).
Core Responsibilities:
- On-site coaching (approximately 5x/year per site, and/or work with a second consultant to support more frequent coaching where needed)
- Identifying and assessing future and current training needs through job analysis, career paths, annual performance appraisals and consultation with Site Managers and Education Leadership Team; creating and maintaining a PD plan by role and site as well as a department-wide plan.
- Providing in-person and virtual large group and site-based training specifically designed to meet the needs of each afterschool site. Travel to all sites is required.
- Developing a training follow-up plan with Program Managers and Site Leadership with pre and post training support and reflection.
- Building and contributing to an organizational culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Developing individualized and group training programs that address needs as they arise.
- Overseeing a monthly calendar of in-person professional development. Director will be required to deliver certain trainings and well as utilize the Senior Site Directors, Education Leadership Team, consultants, HR, Finance and NYJTL Executive Leadership Team, on a broad range of topics such as: Classroom Management, Youth Development, Social/Emotional Learning, Leadership, Supervision and Safety, ADP (HR and payroll systems), Interview Protocols, Performance Evaluations, Prevention of Child Abuse, and Compliance and administrative processes
- Creating responsive training to specific challenges and opportunities and tailoring training programs as necessary
- Maintaining a library of resources provided during trainings that is accessible to all staff
- Tracking and creating reports on outcomes of all training and maintaining training records
- Providing opportunities for ongoing development for new and existing staff, including orientation and onboarding
- Selecting and managing resources, including working with both internal employees and training vendors to develop and deliver training
- Developing professional development manuals that target tangible results
- Maintaining a keen understanding of training trends, developments, and best practices
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, human resources or a related discipline required; Masters preferred
- 6-8 years training experience
- Knowledge of Youth Development
- Familiarity with DYCD funded afterschool programs
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Ability to plan, multi-task and manage time effectively
- Strong writing and record keeping ability for reports and training manuals
- Good collaboration and teamwork skills
- Solid foundation in adult education principles and knowledge of instructor-led, self-directed web-based, and blended learning methodologies
- Strong Project Management skills
- Proven track record in coordinating and managing the build out and delivery of training systems
- Strong ability to collaborate and effectively partner with all organization levels and third-party consultants
This is a dynamic role with evolving responsibilities tailored to meet organizational needs.
The Director of Training will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer.
Job Type: Full-time
Salary Range: $80,000 – $90,000
