The Ethel Walker School announces a search for a full-time Theater Director and Teacher to begin teaching in August of 2024. The preferred candidate will produce, direct, and manage, as appropriate, three performances each year: a student-led production during the fall season, a play during the winter season, and a musical during the spring season, and teach up to 3 performing arts classes each semester in the Upper and Middle School. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to fostering a culturally responsive environment that inspires students to be creative, courageous, and collaborative.
Requirements And Responsibilities
3-5 years experience teaching theater or a closely related field.
BA required, an advanced degree in Theater or Education preferred.
Collaborate with colleagues (Director of Music, Director of Dance, and Director of Technical Theater) on productions.
Oversee all parts of the production process, including seeking approval of selected scripts, managing budgets, running auditions, casting, leading rehearsals, organizing scenery rental/construction of sets, costuming, props, makeup, working with the Director of Technical Theater on lights, sound and tech crew, creating programs (with Marketing dept), arranging video and still photography recording, acting as Stage Manager for performances/training stage management function.
Attend and participate in required faculty and department meetings.
Maintain active communication with students and their parents regarding progress and schedules
Serve as an academic advisor to students
Attend required community events including but not limited to evening banquets, concerts, and community dinners
Participate in assigned weekend team duties
Obtain a Public Passenger Endorsement for your driver's license to drive students to off-campus activities and/or athletic events
Meet departmental and institutional deadlines and goals
Participate in professional development
Exhibit a high degree of flexibility and adaptability
Show empathy for and a willingness to work with adolescents at this phase in their development
Carry out other duties as assigned
