As UTA expands and evolves, we are seeking a dynamic Director of Safety and Security to help us move UTA forward safely for our employees and our riders. As the Director of Safety and Security, you will be a key member of our executive leadership team, shaping the strategic direction for safety and security across all transit modes. In this pivotal role, you will lead the development and implementation of cutting-edge safety standards, foster professional growth among safety and security personnel, and make a significant impact on the well-being of both employees and passengers. This position offers diverse and dynamic responsibilities, making it a truly exciting and rewarding career opportunity. As the Director of Safety and Security, you will:
  • Be responsible for leadership of all UTA safety programs systemwide, including the implementation of UTA’s Safety Management System (SMS) standards to control occupational health and safety risks.
  • Oversee the development and management of safety and security programs for all organizational-wide bus, light rail, commuter rail, and paratransit design, construction, activation, and operational activities.
  • Embed safety culture and accountability across the organization, incorporating safety into mission and goals.
  • Oversee Public Safety (UTA Police Department), Facility Security, Video Security, and line Safety Administrators.
  • Develop strategies and implement programs to achieve and maintain safety and security compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Ensure proper training is conducted and certifications are obtained to maximize daily performance in all safety and security areas.
  • Establish and monitor performance goals and targets for UTA workplace, construction, and system safety and security.
  • Ensure the organization is properly trained and exercises emergency procedures for accidents, incidents, and natural disasters.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:   
  • Five years’ experience in managing professionals.
  • Eight years’ experience managing safety, operations or strategic programs with system safety, industrial hygiene, QA/QC, technical, engineering, or related program management responsibility. 
  • Experience performing safety evaluations and coordinating with safety regulatory agencies preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Administration or related field required, with a degree in industrial safety preferred. 
 KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
  • Understanding of safety regulations and programs required.
  • Understanding of industrial safety, industrial hygiene preferred.
