Position Description

Wheeler Mission Ministries is a privately funded 501 (c) 3 non-profit, evangelical Christian ministry whose designated purpose is religious. We are a Christ-centered ministry which is dedicated to sharing the Gospel and helping the homeless and impoverished. Position Summary

The Director is the driving force behind all programs at a designated Wheeler Mission site, ensuring excellence in operations and a supportive environment for all staff and guests. This pivotal role involves dynamic leadership and comprehensive oversight of the site’s facilities, while also taking charge of developing, monitoring, and managing the annual operations budget. The Director will inspire and guide the team, fostering a cohesive and mission-focused atmosphere.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

Brief description of duties in order of priority

Key Area: Program Management

  • Provide Spiritual and Visionary direction (site specific)
  • Organize processes for the efficient operations of Wheeler Ministry programs, including documentation, planning, and coordination of all site needs.
  • Conduct annual programmatic portfolio reviews and participate in director-level planning retreats.
  • Complete and submit outcome reports to the Chief Program Officer as requested.
  • Process and approve spending receipts, income, and other administrative tasks in a timely manner in accordance with Wheeler Internal Controls manual or as requested by the Operations Department.

Key Area: Community Engagement and Public Relations

  • Lead public speaking engagements and site tours to inform and educate members of local churches and the broader community about the work of Wheeler Mission.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with community service providers, churches, and organizations that support Wheeler Mission’s guests and align with the strategic planning goals of Wheeler Mission.

Key Area: Staff Supervision and Administration

  • Lead, supervise, coach, and train all site employees, including setting personal and professional goals to enhance team well-being through regular check-ins and annual performance reviews.
  • Manage the annual budget for the site, oversee expenditures, and report to the Chief Program Officer as requested.
  • Oversees all aspects of the site operations: compliance to policies, security, cleanliness, volunteers, kitchen, and food services.

Reporting Relationships

This position supervises employees at their specific Wheeler Mission site and maintains oversight of other staff when accessing the site. The Director reports directly to the Chief Program Officer.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in divinity, social work, addiction recovery, or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience required.
  • Master's degree in ministry, social work, addiction recovery or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in ministry, social work, or addiction recovery
  • 5 years management/leadership experience
  • Demonstrated ability to speak clearly, confidently, and persuasively in public settings.
  • Must be able to communicate using correct grammar in email communication.

Technical/Software Knowledge

  • Proficiency in Microsoft office, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Must be able to learn and become proficient in payroll software

Physical Requirements: To perform the essential job functions of this position, a candidate must be able to:

  • Type and operate standard office equipment.
  • Perform normal business activities with endurance to stand for long periods of time
  • Walk short distances with the ability to ascend and descend stairs.
  • Occasionally lift products and supplies up to 30 pounds.

Other Requirements For Employment

  • This is a full-time 40-hour position and will be required to be at the site. Normal business hours include evenings, weekends, and holidays when required. Must be willing to work overtime and be available on-call.
  • Travel is primarily local during a business day, travel to other Wheeler Mission facilities as job duties demand.
  • Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license and have a driving record without major moving violations, including convictions for DUI, reckless driving, or driving while suspended.

  • Post-offer acceptable background check required for all positions.
  • All employees must sign and adhere to WM Drugs and Alcohol policy and remain free from addiction to drugs or alcohol. Candidates must submit to and pass a drug and/or alcohol test. This drug and/or alcohol testing may occur any time after the applicant receives a conditional offer of employment.
