We are seeking a talented and experienced IT Director to lead a small medical device company's IT department and drive technology initiatives. This role will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of IT infrastructure, systems, and operations; reporting to the General Manager. The successful candidate must be a strategic thinker with experience in project management, and strong leadership skills interacting with Senior Leadership. This role will work at a small company, so candidate should be comfortable with using a hands-on approach to managing IT projects and teams, with only 1-2 direct reports.


Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning:

  • Develop and implement an IT roadmap aligned with strategic business objectives.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions to enhance operational efficiency and competitive advantage.
  • Collaborate with senior management to integrate technology into overall company strategy.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement solutions & processes that improve operating efficiency & cost.


Infrastructure Management:

  • Oversee the selection and partnership with a managed service provider for infrastructure and end-user support services.
  • Ensure the design, implementation, and maintenance of IT infrastructure meets business needs and regulatory requirements.


Team Leadership:

  • Recruit, train, and mentor IT staff to build a skilled and motivated team.
  • Delegate tasks effectively and foster a collaborative work environment to drive innovation.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback to team members.


Project Management:

  • Lead IT projects, including the integration of services from the managed service provider, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to implement new systems and technologies.
  • Monitor project progress and address any issues or risks promptly.


Vendor Management:

  • Evaluate and select third-party vendors and service providers, including the managed service provider.
  • Negotiate contracts and service level agreements to ensure cost-effectiveness and quality.
  • Monitor vendor performance and resolve any disputes or issues.


Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, such as FDA requirements for medical device manufacturers.
  • Implement and maintain robust data backup and disaster recovery plans.
  • Conduct regular security audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential vulnerabilities.


Experience & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 15 years of experience in the IT field
  • Proven experience (7+ years) in a team or department leadership, preferably within the healthcare or medical device industry.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with senior leadership and board members
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing IT strategies, budgets, and project plans.
  • Experience managing companywide ERP system, preferably Microsoft Business Central or Dynamics
  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, systems, and security best practices.
  • Strong vendor management experience required.
  • Project management certification (e.g., PMP) is a plus.
