We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Human-Centered Design to lead our design initiatives within the healthcare sector. The ideal candidate will be adept at managing all aspects of the human-centered design (HCD) process, from initial research to final implementation, with minimal support. They will possess a strong executive presence and excel in stakeholder meetings and workshops. This role requires a visionary leader who can drive innovation and deliver exceptional user experiences that improve patient outcomes and streamline healthcare operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategy:

  • Develop and articulate a clear vision for human-centered design within the organization.
  • Drive the strategic direction of HCD initiatives to align with business goals and objectives.
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary team of designers, researchers, and strategists.

Design Process Management:

  • Oversee the entire HCD process including research, ideation, prototyping, testing, and implementation.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality design solutions that meet user needs and business requirements.
  • Implement best practices in HCD methodologies and tools to drive consistent and effective outcomes.


Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Act as the primary liaison between the design team and key stakeholders, including executives, clinicians, patients, and other internal and external partners.
  • Facilitate workshops, meetings, and presentations to gather insights, communicate design concepts, and drive alignment.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure their needs and perspectives are integrated into design solutions.

Project and Resource Management:

  • Scope, plan, and manage multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery.
  • Allocate resources effectively and prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, risks, and outcomes to senior leadership.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the design team.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in HCD.
  • Encourage experimentation and learning to drive innovative design solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in human-centered design, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and executing HCD projects in the healthcare industry.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare systems, patient journeys, and clinical workflows.
  • Exceptional executive presence with excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to influence and build consensus among diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically and creatively.
  • Proficiency in design thinking methodologies and tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a large healthcare organization or consultancy.
  • Certification in Design Thinking or related methodologies.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and standards in the healthcare industry.
