Primary Purpose of Position:

The Director of Education plays a crucial role in developing and executing our educational strategy, with a primary focus on promoting and selling our offerings. The incumbents expertise and leadership drives revenue growth and ensures our members have access to top-tier education and training to excel as Certified Public Accountants in New York state. The Director is responsible for overall program development, administration, and sale of all education programs of the NYSSCPA via the Foundation for Accounting Education (FAE). Develops, in collaboration with the FAE Board of Trustees, and oversees implementation of the society’s education strategy, and work closely with the FAE Trustees and committees on curriculum, assessments and program performance.


Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Education partners with the Marketing Team to develop and execute a sales and marketing strategy that generates revenue for FAE and works closely with the Membership Team to identify and deliver chapter and committee CPE programs that meets member needs.


This position requires a thorough knowledge of adult learning, the continuing professional education (CPE) market, the ability to research and develop solutions and services the NYSSCPA can offer, awareness of the organization’s competition and the ability to manage a team.


Duties and Responsibilities:

1. CPE Program Delivery and Oversight

  • Oversee the development and execution of educational programming and curriculum content consistent with the NYSSCPA/FAE’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Ensure the development of appropriate curriculum. Foster the educational experience via hands-on developmentally appropriate and highly interactive methods, which are also consistent with NYSED/NASBA academic standards.
  • Perform overall quality control review of courses including compliance with NYSED and NASBA standards
  • Develop policies and procedures for the safe and effective operation of FAE programming.
  • Provide contract negotiation review and oversight.


2. Sales Strategy and Execution:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive sales strategy to promote and sell FAE programs, including customized training solutions.
  • Repurpose content and educational products to on-line on demand delivery systems. Grow new business model with webinars and webcasts.
  • Identify and foster new learning partnerships, online educational offerings, content, product lines and subject matter experts.
  • Develop relationships with CPA firms and the decision makers within their organizations on behalf of FAE.


3.Research and Development:

  • Monitor changes affecting the profession such as new tax laws or accounting pronouncements and arrange for the presentation of “hot topics” programs in a timely manner.
  • Monitor competition for ideas and best practices.
  • Research and develop a thorough understanding of members and prospects to effectively suggest training solutions that contribute to the enhancement of the organization’s performance.
  • Ensure the FAE Trustees and Committees have the data and resources needed to guide the strategic decisions of the Foundation.


4.Management:

  • Lead and mentor an education team of 5-8 people, providing performance evaluation and feedback for all direct reports within the department.
  • Provide guidance, coaching and professional development opportunities to enhance the team’s performance and effectiveness.
  • Ensure processes are documented, optimized, and followed by all.
  • Implement and utilize a project management solution to manage department’s work and ensure oversight and visibility into progress, deliverables, and deadlines.


Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience in instructional design methodoligies, adult learning, corporate training or curricula/courseware development.
  • Certification such as Certified Meeting Professional (CMP), Certified Association Executive (CAE), etc., preferred, but not required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant license a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years B2B sales and marketing experience of education programs.
  • 7-10 years management experience with budgetary and financial knowledge.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, negotiation, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • Strong decision-making abilities.
  • Attention to detail and strong organization skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and database management.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.


Problem Solving/Decision Making:

Resolves problems that may arise with authors, vendors, hotel administrators, or course structure. Mediates between members and staff regarding course status, course discrepancies and cost. Makes decisions with respect to cost effectiveness of courses and site locations. Resolves issues regarding travel arrangements and reimbursement for speakers. Intervenes when deadlines are missed with respect to course development and promotion. Handles all high-level Operations situations and makes informed decisions that would be in the best interest of the NYSSCPA and FAE. Resolves minor problems regarding education technology systems and escalates to the IT department as needed. Participates in the decision-making regarding education systems and technology needs of the department.


Communications:

The Director of Education communicates with the FAE Trustees, Committees, Staff Executive Team, Department Directors, vendors, authors, members, clients and Society Staff as it relates to the design, development and implementation of education programs. The Director of Education also attends and presents at meetings with the FAE Board of Trustees, as it relates to the management and administration of the Foundation.

This position is hybrid and all candidates should reside in the tri-state area and within commuting distance to 14 Wall Street in Manhattan.

This is a non-exempt position with a starting salary range of $105,000 - $126,000, with a competitive 401(k).
