Director of Data Science

Impact

As a Director of Data Science of Fraud working remotely at Shipt, you will spearhead the Fraud Data Science Team which is integral to Shipt’s ongoing growth and the steadfast mitigation and prevention of fraudulent activities. As Director, you will helm a talented team of data scientists, fostering cross-functional collaboration and steering the trajectory of our fraud data science initiative.

You will manage a team of data scientists which is composed of a Principal Data Scientist and 4 Machine Learning Engineers, providing guidance, mentorship and support to ensure the team’s success in identifying and combating fraudulent behavior. You will develop, implement, and optimize fraud detection models and algorithms and continuously monitor model performance, evaluate false positive rates, and refine models to enhance accuracy and efficiency.You will collaborate closely with many different stakeholders including product, operations, legal, compliance, cyber security, and business units, and develop a comprehensive fraud detection and prevention strategy aligned with the organization’s goals and objectives.

What You’ll Need to Be Successful

• Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred) in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Math, Physics.
• 5+ years of industry experience as a Data Scientist
• Experience with Fraud detection models and prevention strategy
• Expertise in ML methods and hands-on experience with building and productionizing ML models
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, Java, or C++, and experience with data analysis and machine learning libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Airflow etc).
• Strong thought leadership coupled with the ability to navigate ambiguity and proactively identify opportunities
• Superb communication and presentation skills with the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and concise way to diverse stakeholders and executives
  
  

Work Arrangement

Shipt considers candidates located near a Shipt office or workspace in Birmingham, San Francisco, or Minneapolis to be hybrid, which means that they have the flexibility to work from home (with leader approval) or at a Shipt office in order to facilitate the ability to innovate, collaborate, and spark team connections. In-office expectations will vary by role and leader. Certain roles may require in-office presence on a full-time basis. Metro Areas of Boston, District of Columbia, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and New York City:

$169,382-$338,765

All other locations:

$141,152-$282,304

Please note that the salary range above is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location.
