Director of Career and Technical Education & Community Relations

Job Summary

Provide management and leadership of the District’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program to support the improvement of CTE programming

Reports To: Associate Superintendent of Instruction and Federal Programs; Superintendent

Contract Length: 249 days

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Masters Degree with a minimum of 3 years of CTE program experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Successful previous experience in creating a CTE program(s) and/or administrative oversight
  • Current NM State CTE (800) license or ability to pursue license
  • Better than average recommendations from previous employers and/or other professionals familiar with the applicant’s personal characteristics, academic achievement, and workplace performance
  • Ability to evaluate career and technology education instructional programs and practices
  • Ability to build and manage budget
  • Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data
  • Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
  • Successful previous experience in writing, obtaining, budgeting, and expending State and Federal grants
  • Willingness to carry out other duties as assigned

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Facilitate career exploration programming for students at the secondary level
  • Facilitate career pathway development in Aztec secondary schools as well as partnerships with post-secondary institutions and local businesses
  • Provide feedback, annually update, and carry out the vision of the Aztec Municipal School Districts’ 5 year CTE plan
  • Work with local businesses to establish, monitor, and evaluate job shadowing and internship opportunities for students as well as instructional partnerships and revenue sources for CTE programming
  • Work with local businesses to provide representation in advisory councils
  • Work closely with the District’s Business office to ensure appropriate and ethical fiscal oversight and stewardship of the District’s CTE programming
  • Work closely with administrators, College and Career Counselor of AHS and VNHS, and the District Transition Vocational Rehab Counselor to facilitate career exploration, pathway development, and dual credit alignment
  • Work with counselors and administrators to promote student and community awareness of CTE programs
  • Work with counselors and administrators to guide enrollment into CTE programs
  • Develop functional relationships with NMPED and the College and Career Readiness Bureau (CCRB) stakeholders and act as the official LEA representative and contact for CCRB efforts and initiatives
  • Facilitate professional development for CTE teachers including professional development regarding Perkins V Quality Indicators, Common Career Technical Core (CCTC) standards, and program specific instructional improvement
  • Work with CTE teachers, counselors, administrators, and higher education institutions to identify possible certifications and applicable university credit for each CTE program of study and facilitate necessary training for teachers
  • Provide guidance to teachers in addressing CCTC standards and in finding and using instructional materials and resources
  • Review Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment (CLNA) priority industries and ensure that Perkins funded programs align with priorities
  • Guide teachers and administrators in monitoring the overall effectiveness of program success via program evaluation and Perkins V Quality Indicators
  • Identify and seek CTE funding sources, be responsible for all CTE program grants- including applications, budgets and reporting requirements including, but not limited to Perkins V, Next Gen, and ECHS grants
  • Guide CTE teachers to provide Career Technical Student Organization opportunities
  • Be familiar with and adhere to all guidelines provided by Public Education Department (PED) for Career Technical Education
  • Any and all other tasks related to efficient operation district career and technical education

249 day contract

Salary per district schedule

Evaluation

Performance of duty will be evaluated annually.

Physical Rating Level

This position will require the employee to function at a “Medium” physical capacity as defined by Worker’s Compensation Statutes. “Medium” physical capacity indicates the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally or up to 25 pounds frequently.
