Charles R. Drew University is located in the Watts-Willowbrook area of south Los Angeles and was founded in 1966 in the wake of the Watts uprising. CDU was founded to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for under-represented students.

CDU offers the only historically black Doctor of Medicine program west of the Mississippi and is strongly invested in the local and regional community. The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of South Los Angeles neighborhoods.

DLSE STATUS: EXEMPT

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide overall direction, leadership, and coordination of the University’s undergraduate and graduate admissions processes, and to oversee the marketing for student recruitment. As a member of the Enrollment Management unit, the Director works directly with the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management to evaluate the effectiveness of admissions and recruitment strategies.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Develop and achieve short-term and long-range recruitment and enrollment targets in consultation with senior leadership.
  • Supervise recruitment and admissions activities of undergraduate, graduate, and readmission applications.
  • Direct the admissions process from the point of inquiry through initial enrollment.
  • Provide enrollment reports containing accurate data regarding recruitment, admission, and conversions in order to support a data-driven decision-making environment.
  • Ensure that applications are processed promptly, timely, and accurately.
  • Streamline admissions review process for common application and liaison CAS systems.
  • Coordinate admissions functions with the offices of Financial Aid and Registrar.
  • Ensure a smooth transition of student records from Admissions to the Office of the Registrar.
  • Develop, execute, and assess office policies, procedures, and the student information system of the Admissions unit (The supervision of a student information system in this position includes Slate and PowerCampus).
  • Direct, hire, supervise, and coach Admissions personnel.
  • Oversee the development, updating, and design of marketing and promotional literature, display materials, and website activities for admissions recruitment.
  • Develop and maintain execution of communication plan to Inquiries, prospective, and admitted students.
  • Prepare and administer the department’s budget.
  • Attend meetings, graduate fairs, and conferences as necessary to maintain knowledge of existing and new admissions and recruitment policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • A regionally accredited master’s degree in a related field is required.
  • Five to seven years of progressive admissions counseling or academic advising experience with a wide range of students in schools, colleges, or universities.

Budget Salary: $85,500 - $115,000

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with diverse/multi-cultural faculty, students, staff, and external contacts.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, presentation, and management skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret information.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and detail detail-orientated.
  • Use of standard office equipment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, MS Word & Excel).
  • Demonstrated writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to address complex issues utilizing a clear, thoughtful manner and to come to a resolution quickly without jeopardizing the event or relationships with people involved.
  • Ability to listen carefully to understand, respond, and problem-solve effectively to address concerns and interests of students and campus constituents, guests, vendors, and others, as needed.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Licensed to drive in the State of California.

Complexity

  • The ability to perform highly detailed work with sustained attention and care while providing/obtaining information on numerous inquiries is paramount to success in this position.
