Director-Laboratory
Description
The Laboratory Director is responsible for the development, implementation, and provision of diagnostic laboratory services (inpatient, outpatient, and reference work) in accordance with the policies of the hospital and the directives of the Administration and Medical Staff. He/she is responsible for the administration and management of departmental resources for the maximum benefit of the hospital. The Laboratory Director will also perform clinical duties according to departmental policy. He/she should also be able to provide advanced clinical expertise and education to departmental staff members. The Laboratory Director will focus on excellence in the delivery of patient-centered services by actively participating in laboratory and hospital Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities, and by supporting the hospital in meeting JCAHO, CAP, OSHA, and CLIA ‘88 accreditation standards. The Laboratory Director will also serve as the Laboratory Compliance Officer and ensure compliance with appropriate billing regulations.
Service/Quality Excellence:
Participates in the Hospital’s Service Excellence Program designed to improve patient care, employee and physician satisfaction. Participation includes knowledge of HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Systems and Providers, which measures patient’s perceptions of care received and Core Measure Set, which measures performance of patients’, care based on medical research. In hospital wide and unit specific performance projects
Qualifications
Position Requirements:
Demonstrated expertise and skill to effectively manage staff, organize and delegate work assignments
Proficiency to manage numbers/mathematics and collate, evaluate, and compare data
Effective written and verbal skills to develop and maintain rapport with physicians and external clients
III. Degree of Supervision Required:
Involves general guidance and direction by hospital Administration and Laboratory Medical Director. The Laboratory Director is expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies/procedures.

Qualifications
Position Requirements:
- Licensure/Certification/Registration: Nationally recognized certification
- Education: Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or related science
- Experience: Minimum of five (5) years general laboratory experience as a Medical Technologist
- Special qualifications:
Demonstrated expertise and skill to effectively manage staff, organize and delegate work assignments
Proficiency to manage numbers/mathematics and collate, evaluate, and compare data
Effective written and verbal skills to develop and maintain rapport with physicians and external clients
