Director, Emergency Management - Security - Full-Time

The Emergency Management Director plans, organizes, directs and manages the security, safety and emergency preparedness functions. Develops and evaluates security, safety and emergency preparedness policies and programs, ensures regulatory compliance and best practices. Serves as hospital's liaison to state and local agencies. Facilitates all disaster response, emergency operations, decontamination team and specialized safety training sessions to ensure the hospital has a trained and competent staff. Responsible for The Joint Commission chapters of Emergency Management, Environment of Care (security section) and maintains emergency preparedness equipment and supplies. Develops and implements programs designed to identify risk and minimize organizational liability. Performs various duties assigned according to policies and procedures and the mission of Woman's Hospital.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in emergency management, safety, industrial hygiene, criminal justice, security administration or related field - Four years’ experience in related field can be substituted for degree.
  • NIMS IS 300, 700, 800 and ICS 100, 200, 400 certifications are required or obtained in the first six months.
  • Certification from an accredited national program is required within the first two years of employment in the following areas: emergency planning and management, hospital safety, or security.
  • Minimum of four years’ leadership (manager or above) experience with responsibilities in disaster planning, emergency management, safety, law enforcement or related field.
  • Current knowledge of Joint Commission, OSHA, and other federal, state and local regulations related to safety and emergency preparedness.
  • General knowledge of budgeting and public relations.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities:

The Emergency Management Director at Woman’s Hospital is responsible for overseeing the hospital’s emergency preparedness, response, safety and security initiatives. This role requires a strategic leader who can develop comprehensive emergency management plans, coordinate security operations, and ensure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors during both routine operations and crises. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in emergency management, security operations, safety, and regulatory compliance within a healthcare environment:

Emergency Planning and Preparedness:

  • Develop, update, and maintain comprehensive emergency management plans aligned with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to identify potential emergency scenarios.
  • Establish protocols and procedures for responding to various emergencies, including natural disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, mass casualties, and other crises.

Security Operations Management:

  • Oversee all aspects of hospital security operations, including the protection of facilities, personnel, patients, and visitors.
  • Implement security policies and procedures to mitigate risks and maintain a safe environment.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement agencies and security providers to address security concerns and incidents effectively.

Safety Operations Management:

  • Oversee all aspects of hospital environmental safety operations, including the protection of facilities, personnel, patients, and visitors.
  • Implement safety policies and procedures to promote and ensure effective safety operations and maintain a safe environment.
  • Develop, update, and maintain comprehensive safety management plans aligned with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with management to plan and implement a safety protocol budget.

Training and Education:

  • Coordinate training programs and drills to ensure staff readiness and familiarity with emergency response procedures.
  • Educate staff, including clinical and non-clinical personnel, on their roles and responsibilities during emergencies.
  • Foster a culture of preparedness and resilience among hospital employees.

Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Serve as the primary liaison with local, state, and federal emergency management agencies, as well as community organizations.
  • Establish partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance emergency response capabilities and resource sharing.
  • Participate in regional emergency planning committees and exercises.

Incident Response and Management:

  • Lead the hospital's response efforts during emergencies, including activating the incident command system as necessary.
  • Coordinate communication and information dissemination both internally and externally.
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of response activities and implement improvements as needed.

Compliance and Documentation:

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to emergency management and disaster preparedness.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to emergency preparedness activities, incidents, and response efforts.
  • Conduct post-incident debriefings and evaluations to identify lessons learned and areas for improvement.
  • Serves as a member of the operational leadership team with a focus on building and supporting relationships with internal and external constituents and stakeholders and ensuring optimal operating effectiveness and strategic positioning.

Schedule:

Full-Time; Monday - Friday

Pay Range:

Salary/Exempt

$92,800 - $138,000; based on work experience
