Development Manager

The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to the advancement of the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. To this end, in partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives implemented by DOHMH to advance community health throughout the city. It facilitates partnerships, often new and unconventional, between government and the private sector to develop, test, and launch new initiatives. These collaborations speed the execution of demonstration projects, promote the expansion of successful pilot programs, and support rapid implementation to meet the public health needs of individuals, families, and communities across New York City.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Development Director, the Development Manager is a key member of FPHNYC’s Development Team, whose mission is to secure funding for priority projects at the Health Department. A key role for the Development Manager is overseeing fundraising projects and relationships to secure significant grant funding from government, foundations, and corporate sources. The Department consists of a development team (Director, Manager, Associate, and Coordinator) and a marketing and communications team (Director and Coordinator). This role significantly interfaces with leadership at both the Fund and the Health Department.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all grant fundraising projects, which include but are not limited to; grant proposal writing and budget creation and modification, securing internal Finance approvals, providing guidance and support to the FPHNYC Program team, and acting as communication and relationships liaison between DOHMH programs and funders.
  • Lead the seamless transition to FPHNYC grant managers once projects are funded, including participating in regular meetings with FPHNYC Program and Health Department colleagues to ensure projects are moving forward in accordance with funder expectations and participating in editing and submitting funder correspondence and reports.
  • Lead timely communication of funding opportunities to Health Department colleagues, including concise briefs with recommendations and next steps.
  • Lead monthly DOHMH meetings to build and maintain relationships with DOHMH program teams toward the goal of developing and implementing fundraising strategies and winning proposals.
  • In collaboration with the CEO, Chief Development Officer (CDO), CFO, and Development Director, assist in mapping public grant and other fundraising strategy to generate significant general operating revenue.
  • Develop and implement systems to ensure compliance with the requirements of the DOHMH Central Review Committee (CRC) and all other funders, appropriately documenting funds raised by FPHNYC in support of DOHMH initiatives.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for the CEO, CDO, Development Director, DOHMH leadership, FPHNYC Board
  • Other projects, as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
  • Five+ years of fundraising experience and results track record in securing multi-million-dollar grants
  • Agile self-starter with strong organizational skills, including planning and program assessment
  • Proficiency in managing project workflows within a small team and leadership structure despite competing priorities in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; a concise, persuasive, and credible communicator
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Solid budgeting competence and ability to understand financial statements
  • Excellent attention to detail and eye for accuracy
  • Excellent research skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Experience with Salesforce, Donor Search, and SharePoint.

Additional Information

Applicants must be based in the NYC area and be able to commute to FPHNYC’s office in downtown Manhattan. This position will require a hybrid schedule with at least 2 days a week onsite .
