Education Administration Programs

Envisions an America where every child has the support of a tutor to enable them to realize their full human potential

About us

The GO Foundation is a non-profit organization with the mission of preparing students for college success through high-dosage tutoring. By design, GO's partner schools contribute to the vitality of the urban neighborhoods where they are located by attracting and creating social, human and investment capital. What sets GO's partner schools apart from others is a high-dosage tutoring model, which is delivered through the GO Fellowship, a selective cadre of recent college graduates who deliver at least two hours of individualized instruction to every student every day. The GO Foundation has successfully replicated this program in Newark, NJ, Bridgeport, CT, New York, NY, and Washington D.C.

Congress is debating the FY25 budget and there are proposals on the table to eliminate funding for AmeriCorps State and National, AmeriCorps NCCC, State Service Commissions, and the National Service Trust. We need to tell Congress to reject these short-sighted cuts and to invest in AmeriCorps. Join Voices for National Service, America’s Service Commissions, Service Year Alliance, and The Corps Network and #Stand4Service TODAY. We will be emailing and calling our members of Congress and asking them to increase funding – not eliminate - AmeriCorps in fiscal year 2025. We’ve made it easy to join using these tools: https://lnkd.in/gW4857e

Great Oaks Kathleen Sherry Charter School will continue to serve students in the West Village for years to come. Thank you to Kathleen Sherry’s family and all who joined us!

Our GO Fellows were recently featured in a Washington Monthly article on tutoring programs that are shrinking the achievement gap. The proof is in the data, GO Fellows make a huge difference in their students’ learning. “Great Oaks students who started the 2022–23 school year at the 25th percentile or below in math ended the year at the 43rd percentile, on average. And by supporting teachers in their classrooms—AmeriCorps tutors also prepare instructional materials, proctor exams, and grade assignments—and relieving them of many of the non-teaching duties that can make the profession so draining, the Great Oaks tutoring strategy keeps teachers teaching and sources new talent: Half the school’s teachers started as tutors.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gEMXwZpG

Calling all East Hartford community members: there are only a few slots left to tutor students in math at East Hartford Middle School. What will the experience be like? GO Fellow Ebony McMillan had this to say of her experience: “I loved being a part of this program and seeing my students grow in their academics.” And Ebony enjoyed working with the students so much she is returning for a second year! Housing will not be provided in East Hartford, but Fellows receive a housing stipend.   Apply here: https://lnkd.in/e6i7sSPK

Learn more about what a Fellow does every day! “As a Fellow, in a typical day I assist a lot in our classroom space during instruction, I’ll take notes for the students, I’ll do one-on-one help, and assist with lectures sometimes”

Meet incoming Fellow Tekeyah (she/her) who will be serving in Newark this fall. Tekeyah applied for the fellowship to enable a career change. While trying to figure out her purpose, she decided she wanted to help children get their education. Tekeyah’s mom really emphasized the importance of education. Learn more below! Why are you excited to start? To start a new career working with children! Favorite way to connect w/ students? I love just talking with them and getting to know them better. So many kids feel like adults don’t listen to them and simply want to be heard.
