Job Summary: The Development Coordinator is an integral part of the fund development for Learning Empowered. In addition to supporting development activities, the Development Coordinator is responsible for coordinating marketing, events, social media, donor identification, donor opportunities and donor appreciation. Duties include: supporting the development of the organization’s annual donor engagement and fundraising plan; identifying relationships that would be beneficial to the organization and supporting the pursuit of those relationships through networking and outreach; collaborating with the Executive Director to develop relationships and cultivate organizational support; ensuring that donors are acknowledged and continuously engaged with the organization through marketing, social media, networking and outreach.

Essential Functions:

Fundraising Events:

  • Coordinate fundraising events, including all logistics, volunteers and sponsors
  • Recruit and manage volunteer committees to organize and carry out fundraising events
  • Recruit and collaborate with third party organizations to carry out fundraising events


Fundraising Appeals/Campaigns:

  • Coordinate appeal campaigns, to include but not limited to capital campaigns, year-end appeals, holiday appeals, special project and annual reports


Donor Engagement:

  • Support the fundraising goals set forth in the annual budget
  • Build relationships with prospective and existing major donors to identify, cultivate, and steward relationships
  • Support the organization’s growing base of individual and corporate donors
  • Current Donors:
    • Coordinate efforts to encourage regular and sustained giving from donors
    • Support strategies to promote increased giving levels from donors
    • Support strategies to secure legacy giving through wills, trusts, endowments and annuities
  • New Donors:
    • Identify and implement strategies to connect with new donor opportunities, in liaison with the Executive Director and Board of Directors
Administrative Tasks:

  • Manage department administrative tasks, such as data entry, reports and thank you letters
  • Maintain the data in the organization’s donor management system
  • Provide reports as requested for management


Marketing and Social Media Communications:

  • Drive the organization's online presence, managing social media and website content
  • Design and oversee production of newsletters and compelling content for posting and the website
  • Design and/or oversee creation of visually appealing materials, brochures, and infographics for target audiences utilizing best practices for print and digital materials
  • Coordinate marketing campaigns with all relevant departments within the agency
  • Handle external communications, media relations and brand messaging
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor


Volunteer Coordination:

  • Coordinate volunteers and oversee appropriate pre-screenings, training and recognition


Supervision Received/Exercised: Reports to the Executive Director

Decision Making: Latitude to make decisions for the most effective operations of relationship development, donor relationships, and fundraising.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Minimum of Associate’s degree with experience in fund-raising, marketing, communications or similar fields.
  • Experience in relationship building/resource development
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational skills
  • Social media savvy
  • Knowledge of effective use of donor management systems
  • Fluent in English
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs
  • Clean Level II Background Check (when conducted by agency upon hire)
  • Ability to use computer software applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Email client, Internet) in a Windows environment to communicate and maintain records.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as required.

Hours: Full-Time, 40 hours per week

FLS Status: Salary/Exempt
