We are seeking an Copy Editor to oversee the editing and proofreading of Legal Research Digests (LRDs) focused on legal issues in transportation, primarily related to highways, transit, and airports. LRDs are typically 60 pages in length, authored by legal professionals, and targeted at audiences including lawyers, transit officials, airport operators, and engineers.
Job Summary
Edit LRDs according to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation, 21st edition, ensuring all citations are accurate and in proper Bluebook form.
Conduct comprehensive editing for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style consistency.
Maintain internal consistency of presentation, addressing inconsistencies and verifying heading levels, figure and table callouts, in-text references, and footnote numbering.
Proofread graphics, appendices, and web URLs cited within the documents.
Flag and correct inappropriate language or technical jargon that may detract from clarity.
Ensure edits preserve the author's intended meaning while enhancing clarity and readability.
Required Qualifications
Strong proficiency in The Bluebook citation style is required.
Excellent editing and proofreading skills with attention to detail (grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc.).
Familiarity with legal terminology and conventions preferred.
Ability to manage multiple projects with varying deadlines.
Experience in academic or legal publishing environments is a plus.
