Coordinator of Special Education

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree or higher
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience
  • Valid Ohio Administrative License
  • Documentation of a clear criminal record.
  • Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.

Reports To: Director of Student Services

Job Objectives: Assists partner school districts with the delivery of special education programs and services. Develops, promotes, supervises and evaluates programs/services to meet the needs of students with disabilities and positively impact student achievement.

Responsibilities And Essential Functions

  • Works collaboratively with district administrators, educational staff, parents and community partners to coordinate, provide and continuously improve special education programs.
  • Provides staff with leadership, helps resolve problems that negatively impact student achievement and/or student/staff safety and works to resolve staff conflict(s).
  • Collaborates with educational teams to modify the curriculum as necessary and to assist with research-based and evidence- based interventions to address academic, adaptive, social-emotional and behavior needs of students.
  • Plans, organizes and conducts comprehensive professional development opportunities and participates in professional growth opportunities.
  • Ensures paperwork is accurate, all timelines and deadlines are met (annual reviews, progress reports, etc.) and assists with the collection of student and staff data for educational management information (EMIS) reporting and deadlines.
  • Complies with Federal and state laws, model policies and procedures, rules and regulations for the education of students with disabilities. Ensures paperwork is accurate, all timelines and deadlines are met (annual reviews, progress reports, etc.), maintains confidentiality, strictly adheres to HIPPA and FERPA, respects personal privacy and maintains confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Assists in the recruitment, hiring, orientation, and evaluation of staff.
  • Coordinates and monitors programs/services to ensure compliance with Federal and state law, state learning standards/extended standards, monitors graduation requirements and oversees state and local testing requirements.
  • Partners with school districts to coordinate the transition process for students entering or leaving the program, participates in parent meetings, serves as district representative when directed.
  • Incorporates and promotes instructional, assistive and other types of technology; and upholds the acceptable use policy.
  • Serves as a role model in upholding high ethical and professional standards (e.g.: Complies with Governing Board Policy/Administrative Guidelines, district, state and Federal regulations, maintains satisfactory attendance and punctuality, accepts responsibility for decisions and conduct, promotes a favorable image of the Agency, etc.).
  • Adapts to unique circumstances and factors such as travel, extended hours, student behaviors, lifting/transferring students, interactions with aggressive/disruptive individuals, etc.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.

Conduct

Each staff member shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Agency.

Terms Of Employment

Each staff member shall serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings. Each staff member has a legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values. It is the employee's responsibility to maintain proper certification/licensure and to initiate the renewal process in sufficient time to receive the updated certificate/license prior to the expiration of the present certificate/license.
