Our team works with all levels of government, multilateral institutions and commercial clients to develop emissions inventories and carbon footprints; conduct greenhouse gas mitigation policy analyses; develop climate action plans and sustainability strategies; support organizational sustainability; and assess the performance of global programs (e.g., climate funds, multilateral development banks), and identify ways they could improve.

You will be responsible for supporting ICF managers on projects related to GHG inventories and reductions and climate and sustainability planning for private sector and federal clients. Projects will range from technical, data-driven analyses to writing reports for general audiences to supporting external workshops and communication activities. At ICF you have an opportunity to apply your academic knowledge, gain exposure to major projects, and interact with experts and clients in the field, while also building content knowledge and consulting skills.

An estimated 70% of time for this position will be devoted to an automotive private sector client, with 30% available for other ICF project work. This position will require travel to the Arlington & Reston, Virginia areas including on-site presence at our client’s office.

What You'll Do...

  • Assist in the development and execution of sustainability strategies across operations. Manage the entire process from development and design phases through mobilization and operational execution.
  • Perform quantitative problem-solving, data collection and technical analysis, and manage large datasets.
  • Manage and implement a diversified portfolio of investments and projects on behalf of the automotive client.
  • Track progress against KPIs.
  • Interact directly with clients and present on progress to top leadership on a regular basis.
  • Build cross-functional teams to effectively deliver on set sustainability strategies.
  • Prepare presentations, reports, memoranda, and other communication materials for technical and general audiences.
  • Translate technical topics into terms that are meaningful to more general audiences.
  • Provide logistical and planning support for meetings and workshops.
  • Lead a Staff Sustainability Advisory Committee with 20+ members.
  • Complete tasks in fast-paced and self-motivated environment in a timely and efficient manner
  • Effectively communicate key sustainability information across the organizations

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental or other Earth Sciences, Sustainability Management, Environmental Management, Engineering, Public Policy, Circular Economy, or related subjects.
  • 2+ years of non-academic full-time work experience in design, development, implementation/operational execution of corporate sustainability programs, emission-reduction strategies, and project management.
  • Experience with ESG, Greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting, GHG inventory, scopes 1, 2, & 3.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Consulting experience (automotive client a plus).
  • Mentorship of junior staff and training experience.
  • Tracking and reporting to mechanisms such as CDP, GRI, the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi), and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
  • Fluent (Bilingual) in German
  • Hybrid at client office and Arlington, Virginia (Crystal City) ICF office

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:

$63,511.00 - $107,968.00
