Overview:

We have partnered with an innovative and forward-thinking private equity firm who are bringing together three successful media and events companies to form a holding company. Each company is performing well and there is a strong Holdco CEO to find synergies amongst the companies, further organic growth, and look at potential acquisitions.



Job Summary:

As the CFO, you will provide leadership and coordination of company financial planning, debt financing, and budgeting management functions. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing an individual at each of the companies who have their own P&L that you will consolidate and ensure to comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). There is deferred revenue and subscription revenue, so you have worked in media, events, professional services, SaaS, or a similar company.

You will have to establish some new policies and processes, provide reporting to the private equity firm & the bank, and determine the right accounting structure moving forward. You must be strategic and tactical, be capable of the higher-level work but willing to be in the weeds, and have the ability to work with multiple leaders as each company still has a CEO involved in the business.


This office is located in Manhattan near Chelsea and you must come into the office 4-5 days/week.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Act as a close business partner of the CEO contributing to the development of the strategic plan and the execution against that plan.
  • Oversee daily operation of the finance and accounting department.
  • Direct and oversee the month end close functions of each company and consolidate all financials. Support business units with project specific budgets and financial analysis.
  • Prepare and maintain annual budgets and multi-year forecast and perform analysis of budget/forecast variances and financial trends.
  • Provide analysis and insight with respect to business trends, financial statements, and key performance metrics; assist in the evaluation of acquisitions or other strategic initiatives at the direction of the CEO or the Board.
  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting
  • Monitor financial covenants of in debt agreements, prepare quarterly compliance reports, and maintain current lender relationships
  • Manage annual financial audit which includes developing audit schedule, ensuring required documentation is prepared in a timely manner, and interacting with the auditors
  • Evaluate potential acquisitions and assist with integration
  • Present financials to Board on a quarterly basis
  • Manage and mentor Accountants in 3 locations
  • Partner with other leaders in the business to develop and implement process improvements and new technologies to create a more efficient Accounting department
  • Occasional travel as necessary to other locations


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree mandatory and Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance and/or CPA desired
  • 10+ years of accounting and finance experience with successful career progression to a Controller, VP of Finance, or CFO role depending on the size of the company
  • Prior experience working for a company with multiple locations and experience with consolidations
  • Knowledge of deferred revenue recognition is mandatory with experience in media, events, professional services, SaaS, or a similar company.
  • Must have worked in a small company with a small staff with the willingness to have your hands in everything
  • Must have previous success in a high growth environment; ideally with a private equity backed business
  • Capable of being a strategic partner to the CEO

  • Proven track record in assessing and executing buy-side deals desired
