Under the direct supervision of the Phlebotomy Team lead, the phlebotomist assumes the responsibility for performing venipuncture and related procedures under the philosophy, policies, and procedures established by the hospital and department. The phlebotomist is the departmental ambassador and is responsible for providing excellent customer service. This position does not have access to funds.
Duties/Responsibilities
Accurate patient identification, collection, receipt, and distribution of laboratory samples according to established procedures. Requires highest phlebotomy skill level including speed, accuracy, and interpersonal relations. Accurate ordering, verification and documentation of testing procedures.
Successfully interacts with patients and family members of all age groups.
Responsible for maintaining laboratory compliance through daily duties and actions.
Trains and orients phlebotomist trainees.
Must be capable of working all Adena sites and shifts, if needed.
Customer service representative to the Adena Health System providing guests, physicians, and employees with warm greetings, accurate information, and exceptional laboratory service.
Must be trained in performance of drug screen collections and BAT.
Phone calls answered promptly and courteously with calls directed and messages delivered appropriately.
Minimum Qualifications (include)
High school diploma or GED, required.
Certified as a Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
CPR - Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and/or Electrocardiogram (EKG) as needed depending on position.
Previous experience as a Phlebotomist or three months on the job training to learn basic phlebotomy skills.
