Birchwood, a diverse manufacturer and packager, has an immediate opening for a Buyer. This position handles the purchasing of many of the basic goods and services to meet the day-to-day production requirements of all divisions.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Purchases the best product for the best price (within approval limits for job) from reliable vendors for assigned commodities
Negotiates price and terms to secure competitive bids.
Prepares RFQs and searches for new suppliers for items already purchased or for new material requirements.
Determines lead times and safety stock levels
Purchases appropriate quantities and monitors inventory levels
Issues purchase requisitions and obtains approval
Assists with the preparation and maintenance of material specifications
Helps maintain vendor, raw material, and purchase order files
Coordinates purchasing activity with other departments and responds to inquiries regarding assigned materials
Monitors orders by verifying with suppliers that specified delivery dates of critical materials will be met. Notifies appropriate personnel of changes and updates the purchase order
Desired Skills and Experience:
1-2 years purchasing in a manufacturing environment.
Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Access)
Ability to work in a high volume purchasing function
Strong organization skills and attention to detail
Strong oral and written communication skills
Effective negotiation skills
Ability to work with cross-functional teams
