Job Description

The Department of English is seeking a Business Operations Manager Sr. who is highly motivated to manage and develop business operational functions in a university work unit. These functions include budgeting and forecasting, accounting, data and cash management, salary planning and faculty, student and staff support and other functions designated by the Department of English Chair.

Essential Duties

  • Budget planning, development, management and administering.
  • Prepares budgets, forecasts and financial reports for The College and Department of English Chair.
  • Works with Business Operations and The College staff on financial allocations maintaining the accuracy of financial accounts as it relates to budgeting and forecasting.
  • Assists with grant contracts and works with ASUF on gift funding sources as well as scholarship disbursements.
  • Manages large datasets of financial information for reporting and reconciliation purposes.
  • Communicates financials to Department of English Chair, to assist in decision making, and responds to questions and issues as well as facilitate expense and revenue transfers as necessary.
  • Manages and documents Workday cost centers, programs/accounts and work tags for Business Services team.
  • Manages a variety of account expenditures; review documentation for accuracy and compliance
  • Maintains and reconciles detailed budgets for various accounts; advise and/or determine which expenditures are within budget guidelines.
  • Develops financial models and analysis for various scenarios and alternative financial inputs.
  • Develops, analyzes and interprets statistical and financial data for predicting resource needs and developing plans.
  • Develops and analyses various budget scenarios and models.
  • Supervises and works closely with other staff in Business Operations on variety of activities and reporting in the management of the business and human resource needs.
  • Interprets, applies and stays abreast of changing pertinent rules, regulations, policies and procedures set forth by university or other governing agencies with staff and faculty.
  • Responds to inquiries in a timely manner using effective interpersonal communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills and methods as appropriate to address questions and/or concerns.
  • Interfaces with other units and colleges at ASU as needed.
  • Performs other tasks, projects and activities relevant to Business Operations as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in a related field and eight (8) years of directly related administrative experience which includes at least four (4) years supervisory experience; OR, Twelve (12) years of directly related administrative experience which includes at least four (4) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environment-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse (75%)
  • Frequently required to stand for varying lengths of time and travel moderate distances to perform work (25%).
  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
  • This position receives regular review of objectives.

This position is eligible for flexible work arrangements after 90 days of employment with proper approval.

Alternative work schedules: can include four, 10-hour workdays in a workweek; a nine-day, 80-hour schedule over two workweeks for exempt employees only; and staggered start and stop times.
