Job Summary

IC Axon (part of ClinicalMind) is one of the largest, creative training consultancies serving the life sciences industry with over 25 years of award-winning solutions.

The Business Development Director will be responsible for identifying new opportunities and positioning learning and development solutions to meet the needs of various stakeholders in commercial learning and development, medical affairs, market access, patient services and others. The Business Development Director will be responsible for creating lasting relationships with assigned clients as well as developing relationships with new clients. Lastly, the Sales Director will consult and collaborate with our world-class internal medical, instructional design and project execution teams.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with an entrepreneur mindset who can help drive the growth of IC Axon through the acquisition of new accounts and growth of existing accounts. Flexibility and creativity are important qualities that will support success in the role, and excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential for leadership within our organization and with our clients. It is expected that our sales leaders understand and embrace their responsibility for serving as the face of IC Axon and representing our culture.

Job Responsibilities

  • Autonomously drive sales activities to expand footprint in existing accounts and to target and acquire new accounts
  • Consult with clients to identify business opportunities and advise on strategic and tactical plans
  • Ensure high-quality execution of projects from the initial design phase to the final deliverables through ongoing collaboration and consultation with internal project teams
  • Create and develop lasting relationships with key client stakeholders and organizations
  • Create, update, and execute on strategic account plans
  • Leads proposal and business development in collaboration with the Learning and Design team
  • Maintains an active, accurate pipeline in the CRM
  • Identifies cross-selling opportunities for other ClinicalMind divisions in medical communications and medical publishing
  • Conducts competitive intelligence activities to understand market dynamics and inform internal marketing and proposal teams
  • Actively contribute to the productization of custom solutions and capabilities, supporting the expansion of IC Axon’s product pipeline
  • Participates in regular sales and management meetings to ensure corporate alignment
  • Effectively communicates and collaborates with internal project teams on client environment, overall position including active project statuses and concerns
  • Travel as required to customer and corporate offices
  • Attendance at industry-related networking events and conferences
  • Assists in carrying out various other duties as requested by management

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree preferably in science/education/marketing or significant relevant work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven relevant experience selling Learning and Development solutions to the life sciences industry
  • Proven experience in accurately managing a pipeline and achieving and exceeding sales targets
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and grow client relationships across an organization both at different levels and functional areas and break into new accounts
  • Strong organizational skills, communication skills, negotiation skills as well as strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communications
  • Computer skills: MS Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Cloud-based CRM systems
  • Travel: Up to 25-50% travel required
  • Location: Remote, with travel to clients
  • Qualifying candidates must have business development sales experience within an agency environment and working with Pharma clients.
