Summary: Maintains & enhances Company’s business intelligence system. This position will have exposure to and work closely with all functional areas within the company. Scope of analysis will include both Finance and Operational performance, in support of all functional areas. This position will also be integral to all aspects of management as well as the analysis and budgeting processes. Supports all levels of management with extracts/reports/analyses ranging from historical information, to on-going result variances, to forecasts. Fields information requests from both internal and external sources.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following major areas. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides weekly and periodic management reporting in a timely and accurate fashion. Responsible for periodic sales reporting and operational reporting, present to senior and branch management teams on current performance in relation to budget and prior level as well as the causes for variances, identifies sustainable positive factors and potential warning signs. Weekly sales reporting, monthly product movements, monthly variance analysis.
  • Creates performance tracking and measuring tools; provides readily available snap shots as well as trend information, enabling early identification of causes of inefficiency and or other problems. Responsible for the development and upkeep of the dashboard report and other similar reports. Generates ad hoc reports for managers and other users as necessary. Provide modeling and analytical support on an ad hoc basis.
  • Coordinates with all levels of management to gather, analyze and summarize information as they relate to financial plans, sales budgeting and operating forecasts. Accurate and timely maintenance of budges and other analysis. Develop thorough and intuitive analysis, draw and communicates reasonable, accurate, and defendable conclusions. Support for Key Account costing and contract pricing. Support other members of the finance team and other departments as needed.
  • Facilitates the budgeting and long-term planning process: works with branch managers and provides necessary support, reviews the completed files, consolidates the numbers to provide a company-wide picture, and distributes the final numbers to the various systems and end-user reports.
  • Performs necessary maintenance tasks on the data warehouse and reports as necessary, makes sure data is current and up-to-date.
  • Communicates with management and users to assure appropriate functioning and best utilization of the reporting systems, conducts continuous training as necessary.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from a four-year college or university and two years of financial analysis experience.
  • Three years’ experience in related field with databases and developing SQL queries is required.
  • Cognos experience is desirable but not required. Distribution company experience is a plus.


Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in database software (SQL Server/Oracle/etc.), Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Cognos Business Intelligence Software or similar Cube tool experience, NDS system or other accounting systems; also have knowledge in Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint.


  • Database skills: Proven, high-level proficiency of database structure; working knowledge in creating and modifying tables/views/queries using SQL programming and other database tools
  • Microsoft Access: Proficient in query building, linking tables and multiple sources of information, import/export (import from text file etc. and export to EXCEL etc.), macro/routine building, understand and able to utilize ODBC sources in conjunction with Access
  • Microsoft Excel: Advanced knowledge in worksheet functions, VBA programming (writing routines), macro building, PivotTable reports, and charting/graphing
  • Cognos software: understanding of OLAP concept and multi-dimensional reporting
