Athletic Trainer

Job Summary: Evaluates, plans, instructs, and monitors athletic training programs to help athletes prevent damage, restore function, and reach maximum level of independence. Evaluating athlete’s sports related injuries, physical conditions, and needs; recommending a scientific care plan to include schedule, treatment programs, and related education based on their capabilities and limitations. Utilizing appropriate assistive devices to protect athletes from injury; Explaining and updating safety rules governing daily training, recreational activities, and the use of professional exercise equipment. Implementing and monitoring athletic training programs for rehabilitation and reconditioning per athlete's diagnosis and real-time condition. Documenting and interpreting appropriate information gathered from a variety of sources, including the medical record, physician, and family.

Goals

To apply the principles, methods and procedures of evaluation and treatment of athletic injuries, preconditioning, condition, and reconditioning of athletes through the use of appropriate preventative and supportive means.

Duties

  • Prevention of athletic injuries through the following procedures: orthopedic screening; individual exercise programs for athletes with preexisting conditions; examine and make recommendations regarding playing fields to ensure safety; participate in equipment fitting for football and ice hockey; and assist coaches in developing year round conditioning programs.
  • Recognize and evaluate athletic injuries.
  • Provide for medical coverage for home contests and daily practices; coordinate emergency medical procedures for all teams at all locations; coordinate emergency medical services as needed; follow the prescribed treatment of the team physician/or licensed physician.
  • Provide for the management, treatment, and disposition of athletic injuries through providing injury evaluations before and after practices and referring athletes to the appropriate health care professional.
  • Provide rehabilitation of athletic injuries when appropriate, such as rehabilitation for mild to moderate injuries as prescribed by the team/or licensed physician and provide strength and range of motions and functional testing for injured athletes to insure readiness to return to their sport.
  • Maintain data and complete necessary reports as is required including: injury and progress reports; necessary insurance forms for athletes with medical referrals; daily injury report list with appropriate recommendations; and supply and equipment inventories.
  • Organized preseason physicals for all prospective candidates.
  • Keep parents, coaches, and the athletic directors informed of the athlete's progress in rehabilitation.
  • Provide for appropriate educational programs for athletes, coaching staff, parents, and others as may be required.
  • Provide training in first aid and CPR for the coaching staff.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • BOC Certified and Massachusetts State Licensed Athletic Trainer
  • Strong background in Athletic Training emergency care and rehabilitation
  • CPR/AED Certification
  • Strong documentation and communication skills
