The Athletic Director is responsible for the oversight, planning, compliance, coaching staff management, and direction of the College’s athletic programs. The AD provides leadership for the athletic programs with a high level of integrity and fosters an environment of academic success and athletic excellence. The AD works with internal and external constituents to advance the program and works with coaches and staff who are committed not only to winning but to the personal development of student-athletes and to compliance with the rules.

This position will remain open until filled. First consideration will be given to applications received by July 22, 2024. The College reserves the right to close the recruitment process once a sufficient applicant pool has been identified.

  • Oversee all aspects of the athletic program including planning, travel, purchasing, scheduling, programming, publicity, recruiting, discipline, procedures, fundraising and other athletic issues.
  • Ensure compliance with all NJCAA and MCCAA rules and regulations.
  • Coordinate and implement all stages of the NJCAA eligibility process. Build student files that comply with NJCAA regulations and submit student-athlete information in a timely manner to ensure continued compliance.
  • Develop a variety of student services and programs - such as student-athlete retention, academic tracking, and health and safety – that enhance the experience at Mid.
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate coaches and staff. Process contracts and payroll paperwork.
  • Develop annual athletics department budget; review and control expenditures.
  • Attend athletic home events/competitions and act as the game administrator, or be responsible for designating a game administrator.
  • Serve as the liaison with community, state and conference organizations related to athletics. Attend meetings of the MCCAA and the regional NJCAA athletic directors.
  • Coordinate the student-athlete recruitment and enrollment process, working with coaches and Student Services and adhering to the NJCAA guidelines.
  • Maintain assessment reports, records, eligibility, athletic statistics, and academic progress reports for student athletes (i.e., student achievement, student satisfaction, and graduation rates).
  • Explore and promote community service projects and other opportunities for student/staff involvement.
  • Work with the Mid Foundation Office to plan and implement athletic promotions and fundraising to support athletic programs.
  • Compile information and statistics for federal reporting on athletic program support and participation rate, and ensure that required reports are completed in a timely manner to maintain continued compliance.
  • Review and write policies and procedures to ensure compliance and effective operations. Develop associated forms and workflows to promote efficient operations.
  • Oversee Mid’s athletic facilities (updates, maintenance, equipment, etc.) and schedule the use of facilities for internal and external use.
  • Work with non-Mid athletic facilities to ensure effective working relationships (i.e. contract negotiations, process payments, scheduling, etc.) and to provide access for Mid’s athletic program needs.
  • Oversee and support the design and upkeep of the athletics website.
  • Provide oversight and support of other competitive activities for students, as well as student clubs, as needed.
  • Ensure that the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion are present in all student services efforts to best support student success and retention.
  • Collect and analyze data. Prepare periodic summaries and evaluative reports or documents, as required.
  • Serve on shared governance committees and other designated ad hoc, college standing committees, and professional organizations.
  • Support and serve as a role model for our mission, vision, strategic and service initiatives. Adhere to the organization’s policies and procedures, and compliance guidelines.
  • Per the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), a federal consumer protection law, this job position entails functions that meet the definition of a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs have a duty to report any crime to the College’s Clery Compliance Officer. This information may be disclosed to them directly, through third-party, or witnessed. As a CSA, you are required to complete annual training which is provided by the College. This training encompasses your role, responsibilities, and reporting obligations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge of collegiate sports programs, including NJCCA rules and eligibility requirements preferred.
  • Skills in managing operations, budgeting, and supervising personnel.
  • Problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Self-motivated and able to work without constant supervision.
  • Ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and external partners in a positive, professional manner.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and priorities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Computer skills including word processing and data entry; creation and management of spreadsheets, ability to use and/or learn Colleague or other Enrollment Management software.
  • Strong detail orientation to ensure accuracy.


Education, Certification, Licensure

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
  • Driver's license required.


Experience

  • Prior experience with college-level athletics preferred.
  • Prior experience with NJCAA compliance preferred.
  • Direct experience in organizing and coordinating athletic programs or coaching at the high school or college level preferred.
  • Previous work experience in a college or university environment preferred.


Working Environment

  • Some job responsibilities of this position are performed in an office environment which requires a professional image and demeanor, on-time attendance and reliability. The environment has minimal, if any, discomfort due to heat, cold or dust. There is minimal noise within the environment.

The environment may have discomfort due to heat, cold or dust. There is general crowd and standard athletics-related noise within the environment.
  • Responsibilities include travel to other college locations for meetings as well as evening events (regularly) and weekend events (occasionally).
  • There may be occasional travel for conferences/training.
  • Duties are performed in an independent atmosphere without close, direct supervision.
  • The job has recurring periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (5- 45 pounds).
  • Must meet reasonable and sometimes shifting deadlines, quotas, or demands for accuracy, and may be involved in some unpleasant situations.
  • Typical work schedule is 800am – 430pm with flexible or extended hours as needed by department demands.
