Researcher Associate, Microscopy Lab


Our client is a global, chemical manufacturing company with state of the art technology centers is searching for a new Senior Research Associate in their growing Microscopy Laboratory.


Salary: $55k-65k/yr.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm


As a Senior Research Associate, you will be responsible for developing solutions to technical problems and issues within the Microscopy Laboratory which includes reporting of test results, analysis, interpretations, resolving product & processes and customer problems. You will be conducting independent investigations including R&D in new areas and presenting results during interdepartmental meetings. This is a great opportunity to develop new test methods and provide training by supervising lab technicians, interns, and other junior staff members.


Responsibilities:

  • Use SEM/EDS to solve plant and customer technical support issues. Learn SEM procedures, perform testing, draw conclusions, and write reports
  • USE TEM (with Image Analysis) to characterize morphological differences and identify unknown materials. Learn TEM procedures, prepare samples, perform testing, draw conclusions, and write reports.
  • Use LM (with Image Analysis) and IFM to image materials and characterize dispersions. Learn LM and IFM procedures, prepare samples, perform testing, draw conclusions, write reports
  • Use XRD to characterize graphitic carbons and identify unknown materials. Learn XRD procedures, prepare samples, analyze samples, draw conclusions
  • Use various analysis methods to collaborate with external parties on R&D projects; identify, prioritize, and complete innovation projects with R&D portfolio impact
  • Develop and recommend new test methods; define and implement tests


Education/Experience:

  • MS degree in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or equivalent field or BS degree in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or equivalent field with 2 -4 years laboratory experience
  • Foundation in microscopy principles
  • Experience with nano-particle filled polymeric systems a plus
  • Carbon knowledge a plus
  • Experience with microscopy techniques (TEM / SEM / EDS / LM) and related sample preparation methods
