Position Description:
Tenure-track faculty position at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Neuropharmacology
Primary Functions
The Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) in Milwaukee, WI is seeking a neuroscientist to join our faculty at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the tenure track. The department is seeking to expand its neuroscience research team in partnership with the Neuroscience Research Center (NRC) at MCW. While candidates with research interests in any pharmacology-related area of neuroscience will be considered, those with research programs that complement departmental strengths related to neuropsychiatric disease, addiction, endocannabinoids, and receptor signaling and those with programs that emphasize the effects of drugs and stress during childhood/adolescence are especially encouraged to apply. The faculty member will be expected to establish and maintain an extramurally funded research program and to work collaboratively with researchers in Pharmacology & Toxicology and the NRC. Requirements include completion of a PhD or equivalent and at least 2 years of post-doctoral experience in a relevant area. Candidates at the Associate Professor rank will be expected to have current federal funding for their research.
The Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology at MCW is in a growth phase and is excited to build on its historical strengths in neuro-, cancer, and cardiovascular pharmacology. This growth is supported by an institutional commitment to multiple faculty recruitments, a full renovation of departmental space, strong partnerships with clinical departments and institutional centers (neuroscience, cancer, cardiovascular, and immunology), and a renewed emphasis on therapeutics. Departmental faculty members participate in multiple graduate programs, including the Neuroscience Doctoral Program (NDP), Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program (IDP), and Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP), in addition to our own Ph.D. program in Pharmacology & Toxicology. The department is highly collaborative, dedicated to mentorship of early career faculty members and graduate and post-doctoral trainees, supportive of professional development, and committed to diversity and inclusion.
The Neuroscience Research Center (NRC) at MCW is an interdisciplinary research center focused on creation of new knowledge that impacts our ability to prevent, treat and cure neurologic and psychiatric diseases and disorders. Over 60 faculty from 18 MCW departments are members of the Neuroscience Research Center. NRC members’ research interests include brain and spinal cord injury and inflammation, addiction, pain, human cognition, neurodegeneration and mood disorders. The mission of the Neuroscience Research Center is to facilitate neuroscience discovery at MCW, with an emphasis on collaborative research, particularly between basic and clinical neuroscientists.
Position Requirements:
Minimum Required Education: PhD or equivalent
Minimum Required Experience: 2 years of post-doctoral experience in relevant area
Field: Neuroscience
It is expected that the candidate will be a faculty member in the MCW Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, which trains PhD and MS students, and will participate in teaching in the medical and graduate curricula as needed. The candidate will have a primary appointment in the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology and membership in the Neuroscience Research Center. Where appropriate secondary appointments in clinical departments and other centers will be considered.
