Architectural Design Instructor - Career and Technical Education (CTE)

Job Title: Architectural Design Instructor - Career and Technical Education (CTE) Reports To: Building Principal/CTE Director Classification: Professional Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Days: 188 Salary: See Compensation Plan for New Hire Guide for Teachers Contract: Probationary/Term Date Revised: 3/1/2024 Primary Purpose: Plan and implement an instructional program that prepares students for educational pathways and occupations in the profession of Architecture. Provide students with real-world experiences through classroom instruction, hands-on application, and work based learning opportunities. Qualifications/Skills: Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor or associate degree as permitted in specific career fields.
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or Teaching Certificate from out of state appropriate for position.
  • Valid Texas CTE Trade and Industry teaching certificate or one based on the standards approved by the State Board for Educator Certification from an approved educator preparation program (EPP) https://tea.texas.gov/texas-educators/certification/career-and-technical-education-cte/career-and-technical-education-information
  • Certification must meet requirements for becoming and remaining qualified for this position in a manner required by Federal and/or State law.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in the effective use of software and technology related to the Architectural Design program including AutoCad, SketchUp Pro, Revit, Epilog laser cutter, and Wacom tablets.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work with students, peers, parents, administrators, business partners, community, and others.

Experience

  • Two (2) years of full-time wage earning experience within the past ten years in an approved occupation for Architectural Design.

Major Duties and

Responsibilities:
Instructional Strategies:

  • Teach and enhance classes that meet the need for priority occupations in architecture.
  • Adhere to the district's philosophy of instruction. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Plan, develop and deliver instruction physically and digitally including extensive use of approved learning management systems and other personalized learning vehicles.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies and administrative regulations.
  • Integrate academic core curriculum into meaningful, relevant curriculum; conduct effective classroom and lab instruction while maintaining discipline; create and maintain a positive, safe learning environment.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teacher to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with other staff members to determine instructional goals, objectives and methods according to district requirements.
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.

Student Growth and Development:

  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Sponsor/co-sponsor an approved career and technical student organization and promote student participation in leadership and competition opportunities.
  • Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of school district.
  • Maintain a business and industry partner network specializing in Architectural Design to keep curriculum relevant, fresh and to stay current with job placement demands.

Classroom Management and Organization:

  • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook in the classroom and at work sites.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Assist in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
  • Distribute workload of inventory, ordering, and receiving for supplies and other duties equitably among peers.

CTE Program Support

  • Continue development and refinement of an innovative, industry­-standard program that meets the need for continued post-secondary education and priority occupations in the field of Architectural Design.
  • Collaborate with principals, teachers, higher education and industry advisors to provide work-based experiences for students.
  • Maintain industry partnerships and post-secondary relations that promote course articulation, dual credit, work-based learning opportunities, and advising the Architectural Design program and curriculum relevancy.

Communication:

  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals and teachers. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Work with counselors, staff, parents, and students to develop recruitment plan and monitor enrollment in Architectural Design classes.
  • Recruit for the program by providing communication about activities and events that will assist recruiting potential students from other schools for digital and print distribution.
  • Collaborate with principals, teachers, higher education, and industry advisors.

Professional Growth and Development:

  • Participate in state, district, and campus staff development activities to improve job-related skills. Keep informed of and comply with state, district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain and file all physical and digital reports, records and other documents required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees and CTE advisory boards as required.

Other:

  • Plan and organize program budget expenses and maintain accurate financial records of fundraising and expenses of student activity accounts.
  • Maintain accurately timely local, state and federal records as requested.
  • Maintain a positive, working relationship with parents and support groups.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory

Responsibilities:
Supervise students in classrooms, labs, and other designated areas. Equipment Used: Industry Standard Equipment, Computer, ACTIV Board, copy machine and audio visual machines. Working Conditions: Mental Demands:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Work with frequent interruptions.
  • Manage students in multiple locations in program area and off-campus locations.
  • This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.

Physical Demands:

  • Spend many hours on feet walking or standing in multiple locations.
  • Lifting and moving computers and equipment up to 50 lbs. as needed.
