BP Adult Climbing Instructors are responsible for bringing the industry’s most unique, accessible, and innovative climbing instruction experience to life. They are responsible for providing unparalleled levels of customer service, engagement, and connection as they introduce people to and support them on their lifelong journey with climbing in a way that is healthy, sustainable, fulfilling, and fun.
Class Instruction Responsibilities
Assist operations staff with check-in procedures for climbing class participants
Embody BP instruction values of being welcoming, supportive, positive and constructive in all circumstances
Be in constant pursuit of better understanding climbers through dedicated empathy and a desire to connect with individuals
Display confidence in enforcing safety protocol and gym policies
Work collaboratively with fellow instructors and BP leadership to develop and implement climbing and training curriculum
Regularly manage groups of adults of varying experience levels and curate excellent learning environments in a busy climbing environment
Stay up to date with the latest climbing training methodologies and maintain an active curiosity about the climbing industry and innovation
Work closely with other gym staff to balance the needs of other departments and equipment/resource use
Maintain the cleanliness and professionalism of all climbing spaces
FACILITY SAFETY AND INCIDENT RESPONSE
Maintain the highest possible standards of risk management and be in constant pursuit of ways to mitigate risk
Respond to any and all safety or health incidents following the Safety Manual and BP protocol
Conduct documentation of incidents through incident report log
Ensure that all participants are aware of the risks, rules, and regulations of the facility
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience instructing or coaching climbing in a professional environment preferred
Climbing experience significantly higher than the level of instruction being performed is required
Good communication skills and the ability to provide, receive and implement feedback
18 years of age
Must be able to pass a background check
SCHEDULE AND EXPECTATIONS
Though instruction will be performed on a regular basis, many duties require an ability to be flexible in working hours: weekdays, weekends, mornings, and nights may be required
Schedule preferences will be taken into consideration
Show up on time, be present, and exist in the appropriate mindset for the program that you are facilitating
