It’s Founders’ Day! On this date in 1844, George Williams and 11 other young men held a meeting in London that would lead to the founding of the YMCA. For 180 years, the Y has worked to strengthen communities –creating the first group swim classes, spearheading the first English as a Second Language (ESL) class and addressing chronic disease through programs like the Y’s Diabetes Prevention Program.

We are proud to be a recipient of a grant from Impact Health for a new Healthy Opportunities Pilot (HOP) initiative through the WNC Community Health Worker Coalition. This grant allows us to expand our education efforts about the pilot, developed by the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS), and support eligible neighbors in enrolling for pilot services. The YMCA of WNC has been involved with HOP since its inauguration in March of 2021. We deliver food boxes weekly to over 100 families and provide nutrition education through an evidenced based program called Cooking Matters. Read more about the grant here: bit.ly/44XFExx
