In a recent conversation with Sean Falconer on the Partially Redacted podcast, we discussed the widespread challenges of leveraging regulated data and how the Integral team is tackling this challenge while enhancing underlying data. Healthcare data is often plagued with inaccuracies, inconsistencies, and compliance risks. This includes things like: - Misspelled medication names - Incorrect patient genders - Data in the wrong columns - Sparse or missing values - Protected health information (PHI) We've developed an end-to-end suite to tackle these challenges head-on: 1. Automated compliance to rapidly certify and transform datasets 2. Continuous monitoring to compliantly deliver transformed, real-time data from source to destination 3. Intelligent dataset enrichment to detect quality issues and recommend high-value data sources to fill gaps 4. Seamless partner integrations with data providers, originators, and analytics platforms Thank you Sean Falconer for a great discussion. Back in May Mark Stiving, Ph.D. at Impact Pricing LLC and Steven Forth at Ibbaka did a well received webinar on how new AI functionality is being priced. More than 500 people registered. This week, Mark and Steven connected again on the Impact Pricing Podcast. The conversation focused on a theme that had emerged in the webinar comparing the disruption of the SaaS model with the current generative AI disruption. Is generative AI disruption smaller or larger than the SaaS disruption? - For customers - For vendors - For pricing Mark and Steven have different views on this. https://lnkd.in/gjujda3d #podcast #pricing #SaaS #generativeAI #disruption

AI is navigating a very tricky transition from "novel" to "useful" at the moment, and while the wild creative swings and the (now-maligned) wearables are capturing the attention, there's a deeper discussion happening about what it means to get generative models ready for reliable, robust, enterprise-grade deployment. SADDENED TO HEAR MY FRIEND GORDON BELL HAS PASSED AWAY. Gordon Bell was VP of Engineering at Digital Equipment Corp.(DEC) - the world's 2nd largest computer company - and helped me build a strong engineering program when I was Dean at Boston University. We both joked that we had "married up" (Thank you, Katharine Padulo and Gwen Bell!). When I left Boston for Philadelphia to lead the University City Science Center - the world's first business incubator - Gordon gave me a copy of his book on "High Tech Ventures: The Guide for Entrepreneurial Success" and assured me that startups had a better chance of succeeding because they were not burdened by the bloat of large corporations. Shortly thereafter Gordon relocated to Silicon Valley because "there was a much higher deal flow" there than around Boston. Eventually, he was recruited by Microsoft as their guy in Silicon Valley, where he became notorious for digitally recording every aspect of his daily life. Gordon Bell was a legend at DEC for his iconoclastic, strong techinical leadership. Just look at one of the memos he sent to the DEC Engineering Staff: ***************** * d i g i t a l * ***************** TO: ENG STAFF: DATE: MON 15 FEB 1982 6:55 AM EST JACK SMITH FROM: GORDON BELL DEPT: ENG STAFF EXT: 223-2236 LOC/MAIL STOP: ML12-1/A51 SUBJECT: TASK FORCES, COMMITTEES; NOD; C-I T/F; PRODUCTIVITY REV. I just read the minutes of two meetings of a task force called Customer Installability. It is not a task force it is a sewing circle consisting of 21 people! If there weren't 3 people there who I know have real work to do and have done good work, I would ask that we simply dismiss the whole group. The minutes contain no real information on the subject. We already have a spec on what CI is, and we have to do some work on products to get it. This is not the work of a committee. My point, I would like you to come forward with a list of the various committees and task forces, etc that are working within your group during the productivity review. I don't want to look at them, but I expect you to have, and I want to know that you understand what's going on in your area. I believe 1/2 of these people could be let go from DEC today and our productivity would take a sharp rise. If this is the case, I would like to have their names and since we have the reputation for never firing anyone we can put them in a new group I propose we start called NOD (No Output Division) where they won't take time from people who have real work to do. PS I'm quite serious about NOD. Since it is so difficult to get rid of people, I want to make us at least not have them mixed in with the workers and suck up good people's time. 15-FEB-82 06:55:06 S 31987 BURT

Crafting Strategy in an AI-Obsessed World Yet another exceptional Digital Solutions Gallery event from THE Ohio State University! The incomparable Thornton May shared several thoughts, including: the critical 'T' in strategy is not technology but Time ; Geoffrey Moore & Marc Andreessen began talking about 5-yr tech windows, Tom Soderstrom in 2014 said "an IT decade...only last 3 years" ; conduct a self-audit - can you achieve your objectives? and do stakeholders believe you can? leading to nowadays you should assess your status & progress every 30 months to assess progress in Capability, Status and delivered & recognized benefits...and adjust accordingly Vince Kellen, Ph.D. spoke about the many impressive AI achievements at UC San Diego. He argues that AI requires an ongoing, greater level of critical thinking from users, not less i.e. "slavishly copying from the AI." GenAI will continue to be a rationed good for many reasons, ranging from investors seeking returns & energy demands/consumption. Organizational capital is a HUGE input to successful outcomes, and it does NOT take an army to attain results. Vertical AI solutions enhance strategic & competitive advantage, while Horizontal ones democratize it but provide little strategic benefit. Vince ended with steering users to Perplexity.ai as great source to self-teaching Finally Ben Pring reinforced that looking forward, X + AI is the algorithm emerging where X is whatever you do…i.e. you’re a teacher, add AI to what you do; DON'T imagine that your unstructured data is intrinsically valuable; id'd that labor arbitrage is transitioning to automation arbitrage, and that while Staff size has historically = Strength of a company the outcomes of AI productivity will include decreased hiring while increasing revenue & margins; big generational waves take a long time to play out (Ben wrote ’97 to go all-in on cloud) and the big R in ROI is going to consume the rest of our working lives; he concluded by noting that AI is not dumbing down human capacity…quite the contrary As always, Bruce Barnes kicked off the event with keen observations & questions, and Dave Cherry was facilitator extraordinaire. Thanks to all of the aforementioned as well as the OSU staff who made this possible. #AI #AIStrategy #AIBenefits #XPlusAI #30MonthITassessment #OSU #DigitalSolutionsGallery

With what should we replace solution provider maps? EDITOR’S NOTE: Today’s post is inspired by an energized discussion on LinkedIn prompted by a post by Michael Lamoureux. Join in using the following link: https://bit.ly/3UrJ4Vy Michael Lamoureux, you make excellent points. We are not even talking about the companies that are not on the radar screens but have been out there for 20 to 30 years and have a solid and loyal client base. Let’s take ESG providers (see image in the post below). How many different company logos do you count? 🗺 So, let’s say you have an analyst specializing in ESG providers. Have that one analyst choose his top 10 providers from the “Ecosystem Map.” 🗺 In the future, the analyst’s job is to track and monitor the activities of the ten they chose, including news, product development, and anything and everything about the provider. In short, their reputation as an analyst is directly related to the performance of their ten provider selections. 🗺 Of course, the analyst can reassess their list regularly and make the necessary changes with an explanation. What we really need isn’t a solution provider map but an analyst solution map with the providers they cover. Think of it like DraftKings Inc. for the procurement world, with analysts rewarded for choosing the “right players.” Talk about having a stake in the game! It would definitely be an interesting dynamic. Thoughts? Interesting article. I think we can come up with a better and more descriptive term than "hybrid" to mean AI processing that happens at the edge and in the cloud. At least with the historic "client-server" term we had an idea of what was being discussed. #GenAI #AI The Futurum Group https://lnkd.in/egPtGcXk

With my roots in psychology and neuroscience, I couldn't resist the urge to unpack the enigmatic world of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). So, I put together a three-part blog series to share what I've learned and hopefully de-mystify the topic. In the first post, we're talking about intelligence - not just IQ scores - but as a complex and multifaceted capability. The blog explores how intelligence has evolved from the simplest neural tubes to the super-complex human brain, setting up a fascinating comparison with AI systems. Check out the full post below and stay tuned—there’s more to come. #AGI #artificialintelligence #deeplearning #naturallanguageprocessing #datascience #innovation #psychology #neuroscience #GenAI #GenerativeAI #LLM #insights #ai https://lnkd.in/gkrYMvnX

🔵 Stanford has recently released its AI Index. The index is an independent initiative at the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI), led by the AI Index Steering Committee, an interdisciplinary group of experts from across academia and industry. This year’s report covers the rise of multimodal foundation models, major cash investments into generative AI, new performance benchmarks, shifting global opinions, and new major regulations. 🔵 No surprise. The United States remains the leader. It dominates in AI private investment. In 2023, the $67.2 billion invested in the U.S. was roughly 8.7 times greater than the amount invested in the next highest country, China, and 17.8 times the amount invested in the United Kingdom. In Nordics, Sweden leads the way and is overall ranked 5th just behind Germany. Innovation is hallmark of Nordics and AI is perfect foil for it. With governmental support for talent, I am sure Nordics is well paced to cash on on AI wave. 🔵 Again no suprise. In machine learning models, the United States vastly outpaced other countries in 2023, developing a total of 61 models in 2023. 🔵 More companies are implementing AI in some part of their business: In surveys, 55% of organizations said they were using AI in 2023, up from 50% in 2022 and 20% in 2017. Businesses report using AI to automate contact centers, personalize content, and acquire new customers. 🔵 In my conversations with customers, I see a similar trend of AI Adoption. Contact Center is ripe for disruption. We are transitioning customers to a Zero Agent Model. Due to our heritage in engineering services, we see a lot of traction in creation of AI based products and AI-based enhancement of products. Proof point is the launch of AI Force, which has been incorporated in our platforms and products. 🔵 Even in the AI Index report, it has shown that AI has hit human-level performance on many significant AI benchmarks, from those testing reading comprehension to visual reasoning. Still, it falls just short on some benchmarks like competition-level math, which I am sure will be evened out in the next few years. *Image from Dagens AI #superchargingprogress

All this recent discourse on the open web, MFA sites, best publisher list, etc is a lot to take in. This is a helpful overview from Marketecture Media of the strategic and financial implications of this shift, with a framework to view the market dynamics between advertisers that need quality content, real audience signals, and premium publishers looking for fair value and to survive in an imbalanced market. https://lnkd.in/g-kdjAD3?

Lot of interesting announcements from Apple at WWDC, but the most interesting to me of course was the Apple Intelligence, their take on the generative AI. 👁️🗨️ Collaboration with OpenAI to bring chatGPT to iPhones, iPads and Macs 💬 Siri integration for improved assistance 👩💼 Image and emoji playground for more personalized interactions Apple is also planning to extend collaboration to other AI models, with Google Gemini mentioned as the first step. #AI #Apple #WWDC #genAI #chatgpt

Are LLM hallucinating or are they just BSing? That's an interesting question. I wrote in the past about the fundamental ontological problem that LLM models face. This is an interesting article that looks at the problem from an analytical philosophy point of view, specifically the Harry Frankfurt theory of Bullshit. In Frankfurtian philosophy, a bullshitter is someone who speaks without regards to the truthfulness of his words. This is a fascinating read for my fellow PM playing with LLMs. As a PM the key question is in section 3.2 where the authors analyze if ChatGPT is a hard or a soft bullshitter. The distinction is around intention. Computer programs have no intentions, but who build them, define what they do, etc... those have an intention.

The Associated Press recently covered our ongoing efforts to make ZeroEyes available to every school in every state. Hats off to the forward-thinking legislators around the country mentioned in the article. They realize the importance of a proven track record at scale, patented IP developed 100% in-house, unparalleled data quality, extensive vetting and evaluation from multiple federal agencies, and a host of other differentiators that make ZeroEyes not just the obvious choice, but the only reasonable choice on the market. https://lnkd.in/e7aQH-Vu

Mathematical tidbit: collections like the rational numbers (=fractions), real numbers, and complex numbers (with the square root of –1) are examples of fields. You can add, subtract, negate, and multiply numbers and get another in the collection. You can also divide by and invert non-zero numbers. Addition and multiplication are commutative. These collections are each infinite, and we say they have "characteristic 0." Given a prime number p, the elements 0, 1, ..., p–1 constitute a FINITE field of "characteristic p." We can build other finite fields with the number of elements equal to a positive integer power of some prime p. Why do I mention this? Finite fields are used in elliptic curve cryptography and are subject to eventual attacks by quantum computers using Shor's algorithm. #cryptography #quantumcomputing
