This book is an invitation for followers of Jesus to sustain hope in long-term service by moving past the false hope of idealism, reorienting amid the faint hope of disillusionment, and rekindling forgotten hope stolen by cynicism.

40/40 Vision
InterVarsity Press
Having recently celebrated my 40th birthday, I’m seeing firsthand how our perspective can become blurry in midlife. It’s a disruptive season where we collide with limitations on all sides. We recognize there is more of life in the rearview mirror than on the road ahead of us. We wonder if our lives so far have been worthwhile. We are uncertain about what lies ahead.

It’s a disruptive season where we collide with limitations on all sides. We recognize there is more of life in the rearview mirror than on the road ahead of us. We wonder if our lives so far have been worthwhile. We are uncertain about what lies ahead.
But midlife is also an opportunity to recalibrate our vision. It’s a time to look back, take stock of our lives so far, and refocus on new dimensions of identity and calling.
I’m so glad I don’t have to do all this alone. Greg Lafferty, a pastor and friend who has navigated his forties with resilience and unflinching honesty, allowed me to coerce him into writing this book together. As one committed to understanding and applying Scripture, Greg studied the book of Ecclesiastes and used it as the lens to explore midlife in a way that was hopeful, helpful and even enjoyable. He helped me see that, in a world that can seem meaningless at times, God offers perspective that anchors us, renews us and propels us back into the world in meaningful mission and service.
Join me in rediscovering who God has called you to be. And see the rest of your life with the clarity of 40/40 vision.Other authors -
The Giver and the Gift
Bethany House Publishers
For many people, “fundraising” has become a dirty word. Conjuring images of guilt-inducing gimmickry, the predominant model saps the joy from both the donor and the receiver.
Through a friendship with David Weekley, chairman of David Weekley Homes and one of America’s most influential philanthropists, I began to question my underlying assumptions about philanthropy and fundraising.
What if giving, at its core, is spiritual? What if fundraising has the potential to be good for the giver, not just the receiver? What if fundraising is about love and service, not just “What’s in it for me?” And what if everything I thought I’d known about fundraising was wrong?
Co-written with David and based upon our own relationship and experiences, The Giver and the Gift outlines a Kingdom perspective on fundraising. It’s time to dismantle certain shaky beliefs and practices, energizing a new generation for generosity and rediscovering a path that values the giver as much as the gift.Other authors -

Entrepreneurship for Human Flourishing
AEI Press
When it comes to helping neighbors living in poverty, conventional wisdom tells us that charity is the answer.
But that isn’t true. In Entrepreneurship for Human Flourishing, Chris Horst and I argue that this commonly held view overlooks the real engine of true human flourishing: entrepreneurial businesses, which sustain productive development long after charitable giving dries up. Whatever their size or form, businesses play a central role in the fight against poverty.Other authorsSee publication -
Mission Drift
Bethany House Publishers
Chris Horst and I, with outstanding research and writing support from Anna Haggard, wrote this book for leaders who understand the reality of mission drift. Too often, as Christian organizations grow, the Gospel often becomes cursory, expendable, or even forgotten. Again and again, leaders have watched their ministries, businesses, and nonprofits professionalize, expand, and lose sight of their original goals. Even churches can stray from their calling.

Too often, as Christian organizations grow, the Gospel often becomes cursory, expendable, or even forgotten. Again and again, leaders have watched their ministries, businesses, and nonprofits professionalize, expand, and lose sight of their original goals. Even churches can stray from their calling.
Mission Drift provides the tools leaders need to keep their organizations “mission true” or get back on track. Supported by research and filled with compelling anecdotes, Mission Drift identifies organizations that exhibit intentional, long-term commitment to Christ in contrast to those that have wandered away from their core beliefs.Other authorsSee publication -
The Spiritual Danger of Doing Good
Bethany House Publishers
Doing good is in style. We sign petitions. We attend conferences. We volunteer. From the shoes we wear to the causes we support, there is a renewed emphasis on serving, giving, and going.
But does doing good have a dark side? Through personal stories, Peter Greer, president and CEO of HOPE International, explores how those doing extraordinary good are susceptible to burnout. Infidelity. Lost faith. Financial compromise. Unfortunately, this isn’t new: Only one in three biblical leaders…Doing good is in style. We sign petitions. We attend conferences. We volunteer. But does doing good have a dark side? Through personal stories, Peter Greer, president and CEO of HOPE International, explores how those doing extraordinary good are susceptible to burnout. Infidelity. Lost faith. Financial compromise. Unfortunately, this isn’t new: Only one in three biblical leaders finished well, too.
The Spiritual Danger of Doing Good is a call to remember why we serve and to increase our awareness of our blind spots, which can wreck individuals, families, churches, and ministries. Exploring common challenges facing those in service, this book seeks to equip Christ followers to live well—and to rediscover the heart of true service.Other authorsSee publication -
