    Lane presented case studies from media companies that created separate events divisions. Profit margins were 30-50% for those companies that treated events as a separate business unit; they represented a mix of newspapers, TV stations and radio stations.

  • 2015 Local Media Innovation Mission

    Lane led the 2015 Innovation Mission that included visits to Pinterest, Yelp, Hearst, Mashable, Yahoo, Tout, Rubicon Project, Radius & more. Twenty five senior level local media executives participated on the week-long study tour that included stops in NYC and San Francisco. Lane is also the author of the takeaways report that was published after the trip and made available to hundreds of media executives.

  • Chicago Rapid Innovation Tour - Nov 11-12, 2014

    Lane led a group of 15 local media executives on a mini-innovation tour that included visits to nine companies in a 44-hour period. Host companies included: Groupon, Cars.com, Centro, Vibes, Sprout Social, Aggrego, Comcast/EveryBlock and Shaw Media. She also authored a 20-page report to share the top takeaways that focused on culture, mobile, social, audience extension and coupons/deals.

    Lane led her fifth Local Media Innovation Mission from June 1-6, 2014. She was joined by 25 senior-level local media executives for the trip that included stops in NYC and Silicon Valley.     Lane led her fifth Local Media Innovation Mission from June 1-6, 2014. She was joined by 25 senior-level local media executives for the trip that included stops in NYC and Silicon Valley. The group visited with a diverse mix of innovative media and technology companies including: LinkedIn, ebay/PayPal, Google+, Buzzfeed, Automattic (provides the support to WordPress clients), NYT, WSJ, Russmedia Digital (flew in from Austria), GateHouse Media, San Francisco Examiner, Simulmedia and RegionalHelpWanted.com. It was a fascinating week. A comprehensive report will be available to the industry in mid-June to recap the top takeaways. Lane will serve as the primary author of the report.

  • Local Media Innovation Mission Top Takeaways Report

    Lane is the author of the 2014 Local Media Innovation Mission Top Takeaways Report. This 44-page document includes 11 top takeaways from the weeklong study tour. The most impactful visits were Automattic/Word Press, BuzzFeed, EBay/PayPal, Google+, LinkedIn and Russmedia Digital. Lane has presented these takeaways at several industry conferences, webinars and board meetings and will continue to do so throughout the year.

  • 2016 Local Media Innovation Mission

    Lane led her 7th local media innovation mission in May 2016. Twenty-six media executives participated in the weeklong study tour that included a full day visit at Facebook, half day at YouTube and shorter visits with executives at Apple News, NYC Media Lab, E.W. Scripps, xAd, Instagram, San Francisco Chronicle, Thumbtack, Nextdoor, Calkins Media, Cxense, Tout and Coed Media Group. Lane authored a 48-page report outlining the top takeaways.

Lane served as a director for three years and was appointed president-elect in May 2016. She will become president of…

    CAC is the premier audit company for weekly newspapers and smaller dailies. In the fall of 2012, CAC merged with ABC as a subsidiary. Lane served on the joint merger committee and was instrumental in bringing the two companies together. This is great news for the community newspaper industry as they will soon be represented in the awesome ABC database that is used by media buyers all over the world.
