Want an easy-to-remember (& effective) comms framework? (it only takes two minutes to remember) It's called 7-11-4. It's a strategy for building trust with potential customers. Here is what your audience has to do: 🔴 Consume 7 hours worth of valuable content (blogs, social, videos, etc.) 🔴 Engaging with you at least 11 times 🔴 Interact with you across 4 different platforms That means having enough content so that people can spend 7 hours reading your blogs, consuming your social media, or browsing your website. Also, they need to have 11 separate interactions with you in at least 4 different places.

PRWeek's great 2024 Business Report highlights the key challenge facing our industry. Communications is more important than ever. Comms and policy leaders are being asked to play far larger roles as business partners supporting ever more stakeholders. So why did the industry suffer so much in 2023 after many years of growth? As an sector, we are not adapting fast enough to the needs. Organizations are desperate for help but also under tremendous financial strain. They now need both senior level counsel and advisory support as well as deep domain expertise to actually produce. By and large, our industry is still split by this chasm - between strategic and tactical. Clients cannot afford to separate these, either in time or money. Last week, I had the chance to attend the PRWeek Healthcare Conference in NYC with my colleague, Theresa Liddy Dolge. I enjoy this conference every year, not simply because it’s fun to reunite with former colleagues and clients, but we get to hear from and connect with industry leaders on some of the most pressing health issues. Here are some of the biggest learnings we took away: 👩‍⚕️ Women’s health was a hot topic, with period positivity serving as the opening keynote. While progress has been made in how we talk about and treat menstruation, women in the US – more than in any other country – still face shame and restrictions related to their periods, including a lack of free period products in schools. Brands have an opportunity to lean into existing gaps to address women’s health head on and educate consumers in a positive way. 🤝🏼 Authenticity is key in creating partnerships to advance health equity. Organizations that meet communities where they are can make a bigger, more positive impact. 🔓 Weight stigma and bias are pervasive in our society. Although we’re seeing significant innovations in how we treat excess weight with anti-obesity medications, they are out of reach for many people living with obesity due to high costs or supply issues. It’s clear we can’t simply educate about obesity and weight health – we have to support and advocate for systems that ensure greater access to treatment. 👩🏾‍🤝‍👨🏻 What we say and how we say it is critical – particularly when trying to reach historically disregarded communities. From grassroots organizations to advocacy at the state level, it’s important for healthcare communications to be backed and informed by research and have set KPIs to maximize impact. As healthcare continues to evolve, our mission at Inizio Evoke Comms remains the same, to make health more human. Pixar has 22 rules for storytelling. Here are five that PR pros aren't using... And that will change the game for them. It makes sense... Corpo speak and great storytelling have never been used in the same sentence. (until now...😆) So here are five rules that you can start using today: —> 1. You gotta keep in mind what���s interesting to you as an audience, not what’s fun to do as a writer. They can be very different. Yes, you have a great product or service BUT why should your audience care? —> 2. Once upon a time there was ___. Every day, ___. One day ___. Because of that, ___. Because of that, ___. Until finally ___. All great stories unfold like a symphony don't just skip to the climax. —> 3. Come up with your ending before you figure out your middle. Seriously. Endings are hard, get yours working up front. Define your future state first. Where do you want to be? —> 4. If you were your character, in this situation, how would you feel? Honesty lends credibility to unbelievable situations. When you're putting out a message put yourself in the audience's shoes. —> 5. Give your characters opinions. Passive/malleable might seem likable to you as you write, but it’s poison to the audience. Don't risk being mediocre to avoid risk. P.S. Take something that you've written before, that you know isn't up to par, and apply these rules to see how much of a difference it makes.

GenAI is part of nearly every tech headline. In fact, according to CB Insights Research, there are almost 800 generative AI companies, with about two-thirds being Series A or earlier, and less than 15% being mid- to late-stage startups. Top takeaways from the "Beyond the Basics: A #GenerativeAI Masterclass for Business Communicators" at #IABC24. Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending a workshop led by Matt Russell from the Mayo Clinic. The masterclass focused on leveraging #ChatGPT and other AI tools to grow and enhance business communications. Here are my top takeaways (first draft thanks to ChatGPT;) 1. Expand AI Use: Start using tools individually and then scale their uses across teams for enhanced productivity. 2. AI in Project Management: Integrate AI into project planning to streamline processes and boost efficiency. 3. Promote AI Integration: Develop strategies to advocate for AI adoption, keeping in line with policy and culture, while staying on top of advancements.
