  • Connecting Things to the Internet Does Not an Internet of Things Make

Wall Street Journal's All Things D

Just because something is connected to the Internet or "the Cloud", doesn’t mean it’s truly part of an Internet of Things. Each specific device seems to connect to its particular cloud service. There isn’t really one cloud. The Internet of Things should be the realization of devices becoming smarter from sharing context and information from one another. It should bring continuous computing to fruition, whereby information that matter to you can follow you, regardless of the physical devices…

  • Named Rising Star of Wireless 2014

The executives who often get the most attention are C-level officials who are the face of companies (or at least their voice on quarterly earnings conference calls). The search for Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) new CEO, which ended recently with the selection of company veteran Satya Nadella, thrust a handful of CEOs at other companies into the spotlight as prospective candidates. The focus at Microsoft is now on Nadella's vision, but his selection highlights another truism about the technology world: little-known executives are often powerful players behind the scenes. They are asked to grow or create business units, take risks, and overcome challenges and corporate bureaucracy to deliver results. And they are often unheralded.

At FierceWireless we want to change that and recognize these rising stars of the wireless industry. Some are industry veterans who have been asked to take on new roles and responsibilities, others are refurbishing business units and driving new strategies and still others are working to push networks at carriers to the next level.

There are obviously scores of executives who are diligent, resourceful, hard-charging and innovative. However, we think that the executives we have chosen this year as rising stars in the wireless industry are working on projects or leading business units that are likely to have large-scale impacts on their companies in the years ahead.

These are the rising stars in wireless of 2014
