AT&T inter-carrier problems in the USA today - AT&T nation-wide issues calling users on other carriers.. 911 impacts.. FCC investigating. I'll have some general comments on this USA based failure event and other recent US and Canadian carrier outages coming in my upcoming whitepaper on PSBN policy alternatives for Canada's 911 and First Responder telecommunications systems. Per Downdetector.com it seems like today's AT&T failure event had a ~7hr outage from ~12:00PM to ~7:45PM Eastern Time. Some confusion was reported regarding 911 calling due to faulty SMS texts during the event erroneously claiming that 911 dialing was impacted. Also concerning, some 911 First Responder agencies with FirstNet were also apparently impacted by these AT&T problems - such as this Kansas City-area Sheriffs Office noted in this article.. https://lnkd.in/gB2jSHsm NBC News Article Quote.. "...The disruption occurred a little more than three months after a widespread outage affected AT&T customers, leaving people without service. During that incident, around 50,000 outages were reported at one point. The company said then that problem was caused by a process error. This morning in Falmouth, the phrase "Blazing Fast Fiber" gained new meaning in this truck vs pole accident. Fortunately, no one was injured, including the driver and emergency responders onsite. Although the pole is severely damaged, the situation highlights the importance of redundancy, diversity, and dual-homing as an effective strategy to prevent outages. T-Mobile's sudden $1.45 billion joint venture with EQT to acquire Lumos Networks signals a substantial move in its fiber broadband strategy, exceeding many state-level broadband investments. CEO Mike Sievert cited the popularity of fixed wireless access (FWA) and high demand in Lumos-operated areas as key drivers for the investment, with plans to expand fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) passings to 3.5 million by 2028, particularly targeting the mid-Atlantic region where Lumos operates but T-Mobile hasn't yet established broadband presence.
