Anti dumping is a complex subject (for me). On the one hand, it is a good thing for consumers to have the lowest possible price for a product. On the other hand, we should be aware of how foreign companies/governments are able to to deliver these low costs. The fundamental issue is that the US has allowed its industrial base to wither and has got itself in a position to defend via government action like tariffs. Community solar is likely 'dead on arrival' in California. After a 2022 law opening California to community solar, regulators adopted a plan that only makes minor changes. SunPower PPA & 0% escalation: “With their SunPower systems, homeowners will pay 10% less for electricity than they would from SoCal Edison and have the same electricity rate for the next 25 years…” $0.00 ZERO added cost for Solar panels and battery storage to the home selling price. 🙌 Only 10% discount vs SCE… but the same kWh rate locked in for twenty five (25) years will create tremendous savings for all the families that live in these homes. Unfortunately, the builders never put enough solar panels on the roof to power both the home, to Net Zero, an EV for commuting. As a rule of thumb, there should be one (1) solar panel for every one hundred (100) square feet and one solar panel for every two thousand (2k) miles drive per year. For example: A two thousand (2,000) square foot home and a driver needing ten thousand (10k) miles, would require twenty five (25) solar panels each 400W. In short, California needs all new housing developments to replicate this brilliant KB Homes design, but add more solar panels… and L2 EV charger.

Look at this! A grant by California Energy Commission for DC powered HVAC with solar ☀️   This is in the same vein as the “resiliency kits”. Batteries that are DC coupled with solar to provide energy arbitrage and back-up power to buildings.   Next chapter for solar will include a lot of solar “masking” i.e., solar powering stuff but not directly touching the grid.   From the grant:   The purpose of this solicitation is to develop and demonstrate the impact of a DC-powered HVAC heat pump in a self-contained module that includes solar PV and energy storage, also known as a DC HVAC nanogrid module, in residential and commercial settings. This solicitation aims to reduce building dependency on grid electricity, increase energy efficiency of HVAC equipment operating on DC power, decrease burdens – and enhance access – to solar and heat pump adoption, and create business and manufacturing opportunities for those who develop DC HVAC nanogrid modules.
